You are required to have a minimum equivalent of a high school diploma, such as your GED, to enter any branch of the service with the exception of the Army. The Army will recruit a potential candidate on the basis they will earn their high school diploma while in service as long as other requirements are met.

Earning an Associates Degree has many advantages in military service. You may, in the Navy, apply for a direct officer commission as an E-5 if you meet all recommendations. If you elect to continue your enlisted status it is now difficult to make E-7 or Warrant Office without any college courses or degree.

You have truly excelled by earning your GED and continuing to improve your life by setting a goal of a college degree. The GED will get you into the Navy and many advantages are in store by attending college.

At this point in time, the Navy, Army, Air Force, nor Marines really don't care whether you have a GED or a college degree. They want bodies! I would suggest you join the National Guard while you are a student. Your benefits are basically the same as an enlisted person, and you might not even have to be deployed. My ex-husband's third wife was a member of a National Guard unit. Unfortunately, she was never deployed past the city limits!

Joining after 2 years of college will get you to E3 I believe right out of boot camp. You can also start college courses again after you finish training ('A' school) and when you get a ba you can go for officer. Ask your recruiter though, there are programs so you can finish your degree and the Navy will pay for it so you can become an officer. Pretty sweet deal all around.

You can join the Navy straight out of high-school...or just with a GED...if you have some college background...maybe you should look into becoming an officer in the military.....good luck...

a GED coupled with a 2 year degree will net you advanced paygrade(up to E3) in the Navy. That's it. you still have to qualify by passing the ASVAB and the medical standards for entrance.

I don't think you'll have a problem. Many join the military without degrees.
