Some times it does, more often than not it doesn't.

I don't really like to argue. If I read a question or a comment that I really don't believe, I try to keep a clear head and instead of arguing my point, I want to be able to just say what I think. If I do change someone's mind about religion, cool. If not, well, at least I got to speak my peace.
If you don't want to believe what I want to believe, I don't really care. As long as what you believe makes you happy, I say more power to you! That's the whole point of free will.

I don't believe it helps the asker....Look at any 'controversial' question...they choose as the best answer some other snide comment that matches their opinion...most of the time, there isn't even an answer.
However...there are many people out there who have not decided on some of these 'controversial' issues...hopefully some of them will see reason in some of the answers...see truth there.
That is to whom I generally address my answers..because I know I'll never get a best answer...when I disagree completely with the question, and it's premise..

No, You can't change a person Belief, what's more by asking question or answering here. But you can make them confuse and wondering. You can also make them like a fool.
Contention brings division. It separates each other beliefs and makes either one a fool of their beliefs.
However it does encourage the person to know more of His belief.

No, not a chance. But nothing wrong with a little debate, even if it gets a little heated at time. If asked I'd say most people aren't here to actually convert anyone. That's a little naive to think posting on Yahoo will change someone's mind on a topic as personal as religion/spirituality. I'd say most people are here to hear differing points of view, and probably to have a little harmless fun arguing with dissenting views. Just my opinion. :)

No. I only answer questions because that is what God wants Muslims to do. No any other Prophet will come. Mohammad was the last one and God completed the religion of Islam.
My duty is to tell about Islam. Only one whom God guides, he then only change as Muslims. If God doesn't guide or it is not yet time for a person to change, he will not change.
If I decide to quit answering question because no one is accepting Islam from me, then I will be questioned by God and may be He punishes me for not doing my duty after he has given me enough knowledge about Islam and ability to answer questions. So I have to do my duty as best I can.
May God guide all us.

Arguing doesn't help the person asking, only the person answering.
Now once in awhile you will notice an intervention going on, I think that may give way to open the askers mind.

I don't necessarily want to change anyone's belief, but I do want to make them think about things in a new way, if only for a minute.
A mind once stretched to embrace a new idea never returns to its original proportions - I don't remember who said that, but I think it's true. I also think people get stuck in a habit of not thinking. We think we have it all figured out and go from there. I think it's good to get outside your own head and get into someone else's for a change.

I don't think so, but you never know how you can influence someone. It may not be who you have it aimed towards, it could just be someone scrolling thru. I just answer the best I can, or ask to get other's opinions. I don't go out of my way to change someone not is that my intention. I don't believe in forcing my religion on to people.

This I say and testify in The Lord , that ye henceforth walk not as other gentlies walk ,
in the vanity of their mind , having the understanding darkened , being alienated from
the life of God , through the ignorance in them , because of the blindness of their hearts

it would be great if someone was so inspired by an answer that they changed their beliefs (perferably to christianity) but i dont think it happens a lot if at all. but maybe the answers can stregthen a persons faith if it were crumbling
