Some Wiccans have attempted to reconcile the lack of historical precedence of their beliefs, as scholar and Medieval history professor, Jenny Gibbons states:

We Neopagans now face a crisis. As new data appeared, historians altered their theories to account for it. We have not. Therefore an enormous gap has opened between the academic and the "average" Pagan view of witchcraft. We continue to use of out-dated and poor writers, like Margaret Murray, Montague Summers, Gerald Gardner, and Jules Michelet. We avoid the somewhat dull academic texts that present solid research, preferring sensational writers who play to our emotions ..

I tend to look at the problems experienced by many Non-European Indigenous people when they try to reclaim their culture. This provides a valid model for those of us of European background trying to reclaim our Indigenous origions.

Having said that, I usually says that the Neo-pagan's connection with our spiritual roots are about as valid as the more "Froth at the mouth" Fundy has with the teachings of Christ.

So, you speak for Saint Patrick now? Do you also speak for Saint Bridghit? They're two sides of a coin. You shouldn't have one without the other, or you'll come off as imbalanced. Christ is Love. Don't forget that. Neopagans don't face the same crisis as Wiccans do, because Neopagans admit their religion is New, if in fact descended from Meso-Paganism. (Like Tibuta from Salem)

I'm unsure what your question is. Yes, Wiccans have been prone to promote psuedo-history long after it has been debunked, although it vanishes a little more every moment. Yes, some of us actively seek to inform misguided Wiccans about the academic problems of Murray, Summers, Michelet, etc. (You forgot Leland!) No, the problem is not stagnant. Every year more Wiccans publish more responsible historical representations, and more everyday Wiccans describe Wicca as a modern religion.

Ahteist here.m Its the same thing as so called christians only following the teachings of paul, and the book of revelation. both are additions to the actual bible, and change meaning of the thing totally. Besides. 95% of witchcraft and pagan rituals and teachings are verbal not written any way

There will be intellectual haves and have-nots in Wicca as long as there are scam artists to prey on the have-nots.

Witches have existed for thousands of years practicing magic. What has been written recently is irrelevant. Magic is the attempt to control nature &/or people by the use of spells, incantationmns etc. - and demons have always been at hand to assist.
