Having a fiance who was once involved in Scientology and two murders committed in my area because of it, Scientology is something I feel strongly about.
This is a compilation (in my own words) of some of the information I have researched about this organisation.
Scientology is a criminal organisation , founded in the late 1970's by a convicted felon named L. Ron. Hubbard. This organisation destroys lives and is responsible for countless crimes and deaths.
Scientology teaches that around 75 million years ago there was an alien named ‘Xenu’. His home world was over populated, so he dumped the excess population on earth in some volcanoes (which didn’t exist 75 million years ago), dropped H-bombs on them, then captured their souls and brain washed them. These souls are called ‘thetans’ and supposedly attach themselves to humans, causing all manner of ills.
Scientologists believe in denying various medical treatments such as medication to control seizures, anti-psychotics (for schizophrenia etc) mood stabilizers (for Bipolar, Manic Depression etc) and anti-depressants (for depression, Post Traumatic Stress (shell shock), postnatal depression etc).
Heribert Pfaff, aged 31 died in hotel room, of a seizure. He was undergoing a Scientology treatment regime which required him to cease taking his prescribed anti-seizure medication and take vitamins and minerals instead.
Margarit Winkelmann, aged 51, drowned herself after Scientologists placed her on a similar treatment regime which required her to stop taking Lithium, a mood stabilizer used to treat depression, Bipolar etc.
Check out this link for more examples of such tragedies

The following links are news stories about a girl with schizophrenia, whose parents refused to allow her to take her medication because they were Scientologists. She had a severe psychotic episode because she’d so long been deprived of treatment and killed her father and sibling, almost killing her mother too.

Scientologists also believe they have the right to torture or kill ‘Suppressive Persons’ (SP) people who oppose Scientology
“ENEMY: SP Order. Fair game. May be deprived of property or injured by any means by any Scientologist without any discipline of the Scientologist. May be tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed.”
http://www.fairgamed.org/fairgame.htm
Scientology also has its own navy, called ‘Sea Org’. Sea Org members sign billion year contracts and are punished for perceived transgressions by being thrown over board (sometimes tied hand and food and blindfolded) and are thrown from various heights according to their ‘transgression’. Alternatively they may be locked in a chain-locker. ‘A chain-locker is "a dark hole where the anchor chains are stored; cold, wet and rats,”’

The costs of becoming a Scientologist are prohibitive. In order to be fully ‘audited’, it costs a minimum of $277 000.00, and $380 000.00 if a fully audited individual wishes to become an auditor.

I took a couple of courses from them. Personal Communications, and Better Studying. Good stuff. I never saw or heard any of the stuff that is posted all the time here about Scientology. I didnt feel a need for stuff about fighting peer pressure or getting off drugs or deeper counseling. But I have seen alot of good from those services. And the many other public services that they support.
Its been around since 1950. According to the anti-scientology sites most people try a few of the cheaper courses then quit like I did. And it all peaked back around 1989. Now it seems more active in areas that have drug problems like hollywood.

I am a Scientologist and to be quiet honest, i dont understand why he was jumping up and down on Oprah's couch. But apparently he was in love and so far Katie and Tom have been married for a year and it looks like its a success, so more power to him.
In Scientology, there are tools available to handle almost any upset in life. Including marriage. And the relationship problems that are occuring in life today is just plain pitiful and sad to say the least. It sometimes seems that everyone is breaking up or getting divorce, or cheating and ending up on the Maury Show.
Even my parents are vitctims to this trend.
But something can be done about it in Scientology, and the technology is there to be had.
All anyone needs to do is avail themselves to this stuff, and to close your ears to repeated false statements made by some weird people. I have no idea where this Sci-fi space alien stuff is coming from, but its not Scientology. Its just silly.
More information on some common rumors and what is fact and what is fiction is available at http://www.scientologymyths.info
But to get your hands on some of Mr. Hubbards basic books on Dianetics and Scientology, go to your local bookstore or library, or just visit your local church or mission of Scientology.

Scientology is a rework of Catholism . Hubbard once realized that starting a religion similar to Catholism would bring the leaders great wealth .He was heard to say he wanted to do this . L. Ron Hubbard = St.Paul , volcanos = hell , bad aliens = devils , Other Galaxies = The Heavens ,Lord Xenu and his followers = god and his Angels , clearing machine / auditor = Confession / priest , Lots of expensive property = Lots of expensive property , brainwashing = brainwashing , Tom Cruise = Mel Gibson .

Scientology (very briefly) is the belief that Lord Xenu took alien souls and put them into volcanoes on earth, these souls eventually took over human bodies and soon Xenu will come back (either too take us home or to kill us)
I now it sounds crazy, but look it up, its something along those lines.

I guarantee it is some crazy crap.
And I know that this is going to sound strange, but watch the episode of Southpark where they make fun of Scientology. Its actually accurate (also, the one about Mormons was accurate, too.... and hilarious).

It's a belief that alien souls are trapped in your body, and you have to reach a certain thetan level before they can be completely released when you die. It's based off of science fiction novels by L. Ron Hubbard.
