This guy that I've known practically all my life and have been cool with and I recently got buzzed on a school trip and got a little too close. One of his best friends told me he liked me in the 7th grade but that was two school terms ago. Everybody thinks we are in a relationship but he keeps stressing to me that we are "close friends". He acts interested and he even asked for my number but theres that "close friends thing that is killin me. I'm so confused is that just to show me he is not going to rush into a relationship or is he just not interested in me that way. He is very protective of me and he's always askin for hugs and stuff but I don't know what to think. Some days he ignores me and some days he acts totally interested in more than being a friend. I don't want to come right out and ask him about what we have because I'm afraid he might not give me the answer I want. I'm losing my mind over this!!!

He is probably just not ready to rush into a relationship and in the 9th grade you shouldn't be either. Just be content to be close friends for now because you don't know what the future may hold. In time it may lead to more but when people as young as you both are rush into anything too serious it seldom works. If you try to push for more though and he is not ready for a relationship you may end up scaring him away. You have your whole lives ahead of you so don't try to rush but enjoy every day now and everything will fall into place when the time is right.
