Not at all. A lot of animals can see colors (even some insects see color we can't see.) Sometimes animals see some colors but not others. I am going to try to find some Websites that show the way things look like to animals. The debate on how much color horses see is still open. If you google on "how ------ see color" and fill in the animal's name you are searching for you can probably get some useful examples.

All animals see some color, but usually not as much as humans. Seeing color takes away from being able to make out details that could affect an animals survival. However, there are some that see more colors than humans can; like birds. (I refuse to think about bugs!) Horses see some greens and browns, cats and dogs are similar, but it's slightly different color awareness. They need to be able to see when a potential meal might be poisonous (bugs, again! and some frogs).

Different animals have different colour vision. Most animals see a limited range of colour, but not usually the range that humans do. Of course some animals can see ultra violet light etc, which we can't, so while something may look all one colour to us, an animal might see many colours. When you consider how brightly coloured some birds are, it makes sense to think they can see colour - or what would be the point? The colours are used to display to potential mates.
Dogs & cats have limited colour vision, usually finding reds & greens the hardest to differentiate. Being predators, their most important skill is to see movement (of a prey animal). Also their sense of smell tells them a lot about their environment & the animals within it, so colour vision for them is less important.
It's an interesting topic, and there's a lot of info on the net.
