While Europe was deep in the Dark Ages The Islamic world was experiencing an unparalleled era of growth, culture and civilization.
The only reason that we have now the works and wisdom of the ancient Greeks and Romans is because it was preserved in the hands of the Muslims of that time.
Cordoba was a thriving city with paved streets, public baths, artists, poets, scholars when Paris was a pigsty.
If Ancient Greece layed the foundation of Science, the Islamic world preserved and expanded it through times when anything written other than the Bible was cast to the fire.
The global civilization has a lot to thank for the Islamic world

To Azure:
Look at it the other way around. The Arabs were a backward people herding camels and sheep in the deserts of Arabia. Within 40 years of the advent of Islam, they had taken down the Persians and the Romans in the middle east and ruled from Lybia to Iran. 60 years later they ruled an empire bigger than in the history of mankind and they ruled it with justice and to top it off, it was the most civilized nation in the world.
Compare that to Christianity in the West. 100 years after the Romans embraced Christianity they fell to the Huns. Shortly after, Europe enters the dark ages with the Roman Catholic church playing a major role in that.

Pretty much everything that starts with the letter "al" or sometimes "el".
Algebra, alchemy, etc. They start with those letters because that is the Arabic word for "the".
There is a bunch more stuff. Here is the wikipedia article on inventions from the Muslim world.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muslim_inventions
However, one thing to keep in mind is that none of these things really were invented because of Islam. In fact, the main reason that all of these things came from Islamic countries is because some of the most advanced countries got conquered by the muslims.
Persia, Egypt, India, Greece, etc. These were major centers of learning in the ancient world. It wasn't Islam that produced all these advances. It was the brilliant and well-educated people that just happened to have fallen under Islamic control.

Emphasis in Islam is not materials or making things to make life easier. The number one top profession Muslim believe is Trade (buy ready made item and sell it for profit), and #2 is agriculture, fruit orchards, vegetable farms, animl farms etc. or to made their children doctors.
Islam teaches to Emphasise that this very short life is for test of Allah. Do not attach yourself to this life but prepare for the next life that is for ever. More emphasis is not on the kind of education that will make us rich. Charging interest on loan is a big sin. Most people will give interest free loan to their close relatives and friends. They are taught to help othes and not exploit any.
I wouldn't say Muslims don't dont sins or every one is pious.
I would rather say that Islam is the greatest religion but its followers are not good enough to deserve such a religion.
You mean to say that Muslims are not intelligent enough to creat any thing. You are right about it. Muslims were under occupation of western powers for 150 to 200 years. During this period they were made to forget their heritage and Islam and were taught western education and culture. When they got freedom from the western powers neither were fully western nor remained totally Muslims. They still don't know what is their goal of life. They were left so poor, that since their freedom they are trying to surviving.
Oil producing countries are few. Oil is curse for them in a way. Because of so much without working hard, they don't learn to do any things. Are oil producing middle east countries hire people to do every thing for them. So if your question to them, the answer will be Zero.
Non Oil producing countries like Pakistan, India, Indonesia, Malaysia etc. where there is no oil make most things today they need with small investment.
There are no rich people with experience and confidence enough to build factories and manufacture any thing. They make furniture, shoes, fabrics in textile mills, make steal, plastic products, husehod things like utencils, good quality oriental carpets etc.

Probably not much, since they borrowed knowledge from other civilizations (Egyptian, Greek, Roman, etc.) and grafted them onto their own. The invention that seems purely theirs is probably jihad and sharia law.

Good questions... well my dear friend, muslim scientists and scholars have contributed immensely to human knowledge especially in the period between 8th and 14th century CE. However, their contributions have been largely ignored, forgotten or have gone un-acknowledged.
