I have (in my opinion) the best b/f a girl can have. He is smart, good looking, loyal, caring, ect... I love him to death but he has the WORST breath. I don't even like kissing him because of it. I know he brushes his teeth daily (he doesnt floss tho). I have hinted to him before that it smells in subtle ways hoping he would start paying more attention but ...nothing. How do i deal w/ this? has this ever happened to any1 else? He is a great guy and i dont want to hurt his feelings... but i cant handle being close to his face sometimes.

Halitosis (bad breath) stems from two major root causes 1) bacteria in the mouth 2) bacteria in the stomach.
He is taking care of .5 of #1 because he brushes. But not flossing means the food stuck to his teeth is causing tarter and breakdown of food thus resulting in smelly bacteria.

To combat #2 I suggest peppermint tea or any drink with mint in it. Real fresh mint leaves are best, but those paper thin breath mints are good too. Hand him gum, and not the cheap stuff. Trident white helps immensly in keeping my breath fresh for all my business meetings, helps me from yawning, and keeps my teeth bright.
This may be a deal breaker for you or just an excuse. Also he may want to visit his doc for gasteric analysis of what may be causing his halitosis from his stomach.

Some medical conditions can cause bad breath. Find a subtle way to let him in on this information. He perhaps can ask the doc about it at his next check up.

Certain types of diets too. If his family cooks with certain spices ect.

Untill then. Hang in there. If all the man has wrong is some bad breath. All will be fine.

This is a very uncomfortable position to be in because he may be getting other signals from you not wanting to kiss him. The longer you keep it from him the more you and possibly him will suffer. Just sit him down and tell him how you feel but be sure to do it in a way that is delicate to his feelings. You can also carry gum around with you a lot and offer it to him lol. Hope this helps<3

Maybe try getting some listerine or other mouthwash...ostensibly for yourself...and say something like "I just thought I'd get this because I think my breath might smell a little sometimes.". If he says "what? Nah...your breath is fine" then say "Well, it is better for your dental/mouth hygiene anyway....we should start using it...my dentist recommended last time, I just hadn't gotten around to getting any".

Hopefully he will start using it with you and that may take care of things...

Best of luck!

my old friend use to have really bad breath to and when you offer "everyone" gum he is always the only person to say no thanks. I hate to embarrass people and i usually never do it. but sometimes my bf's under arms smells, well i started being honest with him about little things, then moved on to hygiene, I say it in a dramatic goofy way so he can laugh too, because if i am serious all he can do is be embarrass. so hope this would help you, good luck with your problem.

Halitosis is disgusting!especially when it happens to be your mate. Talk to him very nicely and ask him to see a doctor. Foul smell does not come from not brushing teeth but sometimes something is wrong with your internal system. You can come with him when seeing a doctor. Telling the truth may be hurting but it is for his own good.

Tell him straight up to go brush his teeth or no kiss. Guys aren't really good at taking subtle hints.

In that case you need to tell him, because if you don't someone else will and it will be more embarrassing for him. Also when you go out you could always much such that you have some mints, chewing gum etc and make sure that you keep offering them to him and then he might start wondering why is she doing this
