Red + green+black
or
pink + blue+black

I suggest that you take a high quality picture of the design and then make some colour composition tests using a graphics program such as Photoshop so you can get an idea of the final result.

It sounds like your tattooist is an inker, not a colorer. It makes you wonder when s/he suggested to not get half the primary colors, only leaving you with a very limited palette. I've seen beautiful Irezumis with all the colors your tattooist didn't suggest. I think your tattoo would look beautiful if it were in an array of colors. If not, it looks like every other bi-colored dragon. Good luck, and congrats on your new baby!

Instead of doing half black and half another colour you should do it all in black. I think tattoos look best in black but you could add an accent colour like an outline around it or maybe to give an illusion of depth in the tattoo, like shading on one side w/ maybe red (or use your fave colour). I have a black tat w/ red shading looks gr8!

So many people can be immature here. Its a lovley tattoo.

I would look at dragons on the internet. If you wanted to represent chinese culture, I would go for the traditional colors. Why your artist dosen't want to use red, I'm not sure- but I think that maybe one of the better color choices for it IS red, in addition to some other colors. I might even go so far as tricolored, with red being the most prominant, and two other colors filling in smaller places. Of course, discuss this with your artist!

Good luck!
