Because the right in the Constitution to keep and bear arms is not a collective right, but an individual right. Nowhere else in the Constitution does the People refer to the State, as gun control advocates seem to wish it to be. The Founders defined a militia not as the National Guard, but as all able-bodied citizens (males at the time).

The First, Fourth, Ninth, and Tenth Amendments all mention "the people" and none of these is misunderstood to represent a right of the states. Indeed, in the Tenth Amendments, a definite distinction is made between the states and the people, so there is no reason to believe that in the same document, the people referred to in the Second Amendment is somehow the state.

It is in the District of Columbia. Not all over the USA. However, I would not turn in my guns. If the Government wants them, they will have to buy them for what they are worth. And mine are worth a lot.

And it is against the 2nd ammendment. Cities such as DC and San Francisco need to realize that they are merely a municipality and do not supercede federal law.

And this goes for all little laws, not just guns. Medical Marijuana, Licenses for illegals, etc etc.

This article refers to Washington, DC. If you didn't notice that, I'm very worried about you owning a handgun.

By the way, the majority of federal and state appealate courts that have heard this type of case have ruled that this right is collective.

I won't turn in my handgun because the 2nd Amendment to the United States Constitution gives all Americans (except convicted felons) the right to bear arms. So, unless they amend the Constitution, the only way they are getting mine is when I am dead.

As Thomas Jefferson so eloquently stated:

“The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government””

I will turn in my guns when women and people of other races quit voting, there is no more freedom of the press or religion and soldiers can be quartered in your house without your approval.

This is the problem with the gun control. You have 2 sides that push their rights to the extreme. The NRA protects gun dealers not gun owners. All you need to do is get rid of the bad gun dealers and not have the NRA protect them. Where I live there was a gun shop that sold over 10,000 guns without doing proper checks. Guess who defended them? The NRA. Over half the murders in that city came from guns sold at that shop. Bad gun dealers is the problem not gun owners.
