How many people here have ever heard of Monotheasm, which is the belief in one Goddess. It's not like the trendy Wicca that focuses on polarity - it's a comprehensive view of the Universe as a living Goddess, and everything that is, was or ever will be co-exists within Her. Some of us call it Wicce.

It syncs up perfectly with evolution, quantum mechanics, chaos theory, genetics and other sciences. It is an extension of the Gaia hypothesis. It says that everything is connected so everything we do affects us eventually. It's a concept of not just perfect oneness, but the perfect source - 0 (zero) that flows into existence.

I'm not asking people to believe in it, I'm just curious as to how many of you have encountered it before, and whether any of you have ever seriously considered the idea of a living Universe or planet. I don't think it's for everyone, but I do think you can't have a complete understanding of religious concepts unless you've heard this part of the story.

NO, I Don't mean monotheism - that is a belief in one god - people in this culture presume the gender is male. Monothe*A*sm refers specifically to one Goddess. It is used in Goddess literature and is a real word.

Yes, it is Wicce - Wicca is the masculine form of the word, Wicce is the feminine form. A feminine word for Goddess religion.

Yes, it is the most ancient form of Paganism, but most modern people, even Wiccans, haven't heard of it.

The gender of the Universe in this view is specifically feminine because in the physical world. only a female can reproduce parthenogenically. Males cannot reproduce without a female. Therefore, the physical Universe, being one, must be female.

It's very popular to say deity has no gender, but that's a very PC way of trying to make women think they're being included when they really aren't.

This is hard-core, Feminist Wicce. I'm disappointed that not many of you have heard of it. At least now, maybe you'll know what it is when you run into us.

Labgrrl - I'd be glad to talk to your scientist because Monothasm DOES sync with all those sciences. The chance that he or you have any concept of what I'm talking about, based on your answer, is nil. This is not patriarchy in a skirt - it's a completely different world view.

To those who think Wicce is a "duality" :
this is a patriarchal concept that has contaminated the Craft. Too much influence from Crowley and the Golden Dawn in England when Gardner did his work put us on a lower path - ultimately, there has to be wholeness. The Craft should not reinforce patriarchal stereotypes!

Lady Morgana :
Greetings, Sister!
Your response is such welcome relief after all this thinly veiled misogyny, even from some who seem to be Wiccan. I can't believe people are so reticent to consider a completely different concept. You explained it beautifully. Thanks for your confirmation that the word exists and is already in general usage.

Goddess bless you - feel free to stay in touch if you like

Oh my Goddess!!!! Not only have I heard of it, as a pagan and a Witch, I live it breathe it and embrace it with every fiber of my heart and soul!

Monotheasm is a fascinating concept that has been discussed by feminist goddess historians, scientists and social philosophers who proffer the concept of the Universe as a female entity which gives birth to us all and which necessarily is female as a birth giving entity. The perfect state of all things not just being One, but also all coming from the One, all connected and within Her as one, the Original Big Bang.

Those who suggest that the concepts that people are force fed about the notion of a "god" and monotheism being inclusive of female, like the notion of the pronoun "he" being inclusive for both he and she, are totally wrong and DO NOT SPEAK FOR ME!!! My concept of the deity that is the most accurate is the idea of a female deity, the one great spirit which is the Universe and is most definitely female.

Don't get me wrong, I love men, I think they are great. But "mankind" is not an inclusive word, it excludes femaleness.

I am going to print out your question and tape it to my refrigerator, and send it to my friends and family! I love the way you phrased it and I am so excited!!!! Thank you for asking this question, I LOVE IT!!!!!!

Blessings and more blessings!!!!!!!
May the Great Mother Universe Be With You!

Hun, that's _not_ what monotheism means. Please look it up. Monotheism is the belief in a single deity, irregardless of gender. Christianity, Judaism and Islam are all monotheisms.

And while I can't stop you from calling your faith Wicce, historically all that word is the feminine form of Wicca, so don't be surprised when people keep thinking you're Wiccan.

Edit: my apologies for confusing monotheism with monotheasm. Please understand, hnowever, that this is word made up within the feminist theology community, which is why most of us haven't heard about it.

That _still_ does not make it a religion. It is a type of religion, just as monotheism is a type of religion.

And here's a hint: the moment you start talking about something being the world's oldest religion, all of your credibility goes down the toilet. He have no idea what the first religion was, because religion far predates writing. Also, we have no evidence of any historical culture worshipping a single goddess. Zero cultures. Zip, zero, none. This is the kind of bad historical representations that make pagans look bad.

Dianic Paganism.
Not Wicca.
Not Wicce, which is feminine singular.

Monotheism is from Mono and Theism one deity. The term is gender neutral.

You can't make an ism from a feminine singular. That's not how it works.
Note that Gaia+ ism =gaism, not gaiaism.
Monotheasm can ONLY be pronounce mono the asm.

Naomi Wolf would've flunked Latin.

And, frankly, monotheism is monotheism and is equally lame whether all gods are one god or one goddess.

It does not sync with evolution or genetics, and if you'd like I can invite you to meet a physicist who will point out it does not work with chaos theory or quantum mechanics.

So, whatever.

The suffix is ism.
The prefix is mono.

The root word is Theo/Theo/Thea
To add a suffix to Theo/Theo/Thea you remove the terminal vowel.
Thus
Mono+Theo (masc. sing)+ism= monotheism
Mono+Theo(Neut. sing)+ism=monotheism
Mono+Thea(fem. sing)+ism=monotheism

Just like Thea+ology is Theology and astra+ology is astrology
and Theo+ology is Theology and bio+ology is biology.

You mean Monotheism. It's the belief in one God. Has nothing to do with a goddess.

I am Monotheistic. Not so sure I believe in the Goddess anymore.

I believe in one God. I broke away from and stopped practicing Polytheism...for now, or until I find proof that these other gods exist.

No such thing as "Wicce" either. It's WICCA. With an A.

It simply means the belief in ONE supreme deity. So whether one has heard of it or not, most western cultures practice it in the form of Christianity.

I'm sorry but tho Wicca may be "A" monotheistic religion, it is not the only one. Just as Gouda is not the only cheese.

he world,You are mistaken, as there are MANY monotheistic religions/beliefs. It simply MEANS "Theology of ONE', ONE God (or goddess, in Your case). It is an adjective, not a proper noun.

EDIT... I went out to look this term up and it's so vaguely defined, all that I could find were a handful of people using it in a few rather obscure publications, some even only in print privately. The first usage I could find documented was 1976, making it barely 30 years old. The Wicca religion may be old, but this particular term is not.

I think it's great when people find something to be excited about and want to share it, but I do think the mistake of thinking you meant "monotheism" was a fair one to make, and I suspect that YOU didn't know THAT word, or you might have stated the difference in your question to make yourself fully understood.

You might also consider that one does not need a "complete understanding" of anything to have belief in it, to choose it over something else, nor to be just as happy in their choice as you are in yours. VERY FEW people have a complete understanding of anything, let alone the thousands upon thousands of religious "concepts" and I sincerely doubt that you are one of them. An invitation to share something is one thing, but to attempt to belittle those who do not share your knowledge or opinion (and are likely not interested) is quite another. Is being judgmental part of your theology as well?

And I used "Deity" because I do not believe in a God who has a gender. You say it YOUR way, i'll say it mine.

If your goal is to sincerely share something, to invite others to be interested too, you won't get far by putting them down, making them feel as if you believe yourself more informed by lording an obscure term over their heads. I think YOU may have some things to learn.

Respectfully....

And females cannot reproduce without males, unless there is something else I've not heard of...? (wink)

gentle thoughts

No, I've not heard of it, but it soulnds like something someone invented to describe a very personal, esoteric little theory.

Wow, a little self righteous are we? Your way, THE way? Why would especially non feminists even have an interest in this? Why should all know what you know?

Car for an in depth discussion of quantum physics, which I am quite sure you understand PERFECTLY, right?

I haven't heard the concept called by that name, but I have heard of the concept.

I personally don't ascribe to the theory that "All Goddesses are One Goddess" as I can best be described as a hard polytheist (with a belief that all the Gods and Goddesses are discrete personalities) but I certainly know people who do.

I've heard of the concept also, but not the name. Are you sure you're not talking about "Monotheism"? Because that's the belief in strictly one Deity - be it male or female.

I've heard of some of the things you mentioned like Gaia, (and of course evolution, quantum mechanics, chaos theory, etc.)

I've never heard of Monotheasm by this name before.

I do think there is definitely something to the 'everything is connected' viewpoint. I don't think any of us can behave as if it doesn't affect anybody else...
