i am just the opposite-after going through the foster system and several different families of various religions i saw what they said and what they did to be two different things-it was only after that i decided to read the bible to find out how that could be true--after reading it several times i understood their confusion and their differences----smile and enjoy the night

I read and hear people say that all the time. I know I'm the same way. I've read here some Christians say they've read it and stayed Xian. I wondered how the hell that was possible but then I saw a post about a specific verse in Matthew that showed the Buy-bull to have a false statement and some Xian responder bent over backwards to explain away one section, even though the following statement completely voided what he was saying. So, 'reading comprehension' seems to be of greater importance.
Edit; These clowns that say a person wasn't a 'real' Xian if you read it and don't agree-whatever I went to church and thought I was more devout than some but not as much as others, had that 'born again' feeling at some church camp-hindsight makes me think I was just high on the natural beauty MOTHER NATURE has provided.

Yeah. Actually, when I was a kid, I was so religious that the pastor of the church picked me and a few other kids out for a special "discipleship" program where he tutored us and we explored the scriptures much more in depth and comprehensively than any other study group in the church. I spent years doing tons of studying of the bible. I even learned some Greek and Hebrew.
After spending so much time learning all of that stuff, I eventually started to think about it and realized that it had to be untrue.
One of the most damning things in the bible is that the christian god is supposed to send all non-christians to hell for eternity. As I grew older and met a more diverse set of people, I realized that there were tons of very good people in the world that were not christians. I realized that the christian god would have to be evil to send all of these good people to hell.
Of course, there are a ton of other things in the bible that make it pretty clear that christianity is a false religion. The fact that the nature of Jesus is an absolute opposite to the nature of Jehovah is a pretty good tip-off.
Then there is the fact that almost all of the references that Jesus makes to Old Testament scriptures tend to really twist and pervert the Old Testament texts. Also, almost all of the "prophecies" that Jesus supposedly fulfilled from the Old Testament were either not actual prophesies or Jesus didn't fully fulfill them.
There are millions of clues in the bible that christianity is a blatantly false religion. However, most people haven't studied their bible enough to realize this.

Definitely. And, when I realized how things really were, I felt like I had been living with a woman who had been cheating on me for 15 years and I didn't know it. The guilt trip life is actually a form of emotional flagalation, and the freedom to live now is so great that I enjoy every aspect of my life. Couldn't do that as an xtian.

The Holy Bible is a difficult test.
I believe that a person must be fully mature to understand its bits and pieces, as well as understand to some degree the times that the authors lived it. To appreciate it from a modern view is actually a very difficult feat. That is why many people will say to you that you have to be guided by the Holy Spirit, and to read it with a humble and contrite heart, not with a heart bent on finding fault with it.
One of the most difficult types of plays to translate onto stage is a Shakespearean one, because there are few directions, and many words. The Bible can be seen as such a work in a way since the reader must understand that sometimes between chapter and verse, a great deal of time passes.

This I say and testify in The Lord , that ye henceforth walk not as other gentiles walk ,
in the vanity of their mind , having the understanding darkened , being alienated from
the life of God , through the ignorance in them , because of the blindness of their hearts

Well, I was a Christian when I read the Bible and now I'm not anymore, lol.
To all of you who are like "you weren't a real Christian then!" -Shut up. Please. I had a relationship with someone who I thought to be real, and now I think otherwise. There are MANY factors that play here, THINK about them. Please.

I can relate to your question. I too read the Bible from page to page and it took me alittle over a year. I was left with a feeling of hopelessness, like we will never be good enough. But the more I think about it, the more I think we do need God in our lives because he does love us regardless of how bad we mess up.

Oh dear..
I agree, you were never a Christian to begin with, you clearly just called yourself a Christian.
Being a Christian means that you have accepted that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins, and you have repented all of your sins. That's it.
It has nothing to do with reading the bible!!.
JESSICA, there are no factors here to think about. The fact is that if you had a genuine real relationship with Christ and you had accepted him as your saviour. NOTHING would have taken you away from him, because when you have accepted him as your saviour you are protected from doing EXACTLY what you have done!. Do you not see that?.
madnoell, being a Christian doesn't give you any special feeling!. Ugghhh. It changes your life direction. And what does going to church/Christian camp etc etc have to do with being a Christian??.
I can see why you are all confused, you haven't "gotten" what being a Christian really is.

I did not have to waste my time doing that...I learned from all my years growing up, and right from the people who, holding it in their hands, told me I should be reading it.
I choose to believe that Jesus exisited, but he was only a man with vision and his martydom created all the mess we have as Christianity today. GOD IS A CONCEPT BY WHICH WE MEASURE OUR PAIN-Lennon
