Well I personally like the NIV because it's easier to read and has the same information as the KJV but just in a way that relates to the way I speak and my understanding of the english language. But there are some instances where things are not fully translated as the KJV has them written, but the good thing is that in most NIV bibles if they've modified it they will put the original verse at the bottom of the page in fine print so that you can refer to it for clarification if needed. As for scholars and what they say I can't help you there. But if you're wanting a better understandble version of the bible I'd recommed the NIV.

I highly do not suggest the NIV, NLT, they omit verses. you'll see verse 21 and itll skip to verse 23. some versions dont talk about the blood of Jesus, change words, which make the sentence totally mean something else etc. Be very careful. I read the KJV. in the beginning i had a very difficult time understanding, but as i continued in it, and asked God for understanding, i can now understand very clearly!! it awesome! Even my husband, who hated reading and could not read a passage w/out falling asleep within 5 minutes, reads God's Word everyday and every chance he gets!! God is amazing!! I believe people back in the day had the same knowledge as we do nowadays or even more!! the world then wasn't as corrupt as it is today! God is the same today, as he was back then, so we shouldn't say we have more knowledge than those back then. At times, ill parallel with the AMP and then go back to KJV if i dont understand some wording, but eventually i understand it! Pray and ask God for understanding and revelation. He will show it to you!

Most people who havent read the Bible that much would like the New International Version- but I grew up in a Revised Standard Version, but due to the interest ing the Bible, I now have a New King James study Bible that I really like- It has alot of things a regular Bible does not. Anything else is usually too watered down or too paraphrased.

Never use the Message, it's over politically correct and detracts from meaning.
I would say go with NIV or KJV, maybe 20th cent. KJV.
NIV- it's really great for beginners and is considered theologically most correct. The problem is, sometimes it is difficult to visualize, and you lose some of the poetry of KJV.
KJV - it's very poetic and relied upon by generations, but it was tweaked to please the subjects of the king at the time, but if you really want a KJV i'd suggest a newer KJV version, like 20th cent. KJV.

I, hereby, go on record as saying that the so-called King James Version of the Bible is bunk!
Why, dear God, why would anyone attempt to read the most important book ever translated into English from a revamped 1611 version.
I DON'T GET IT!
The knowledge of God is a continuing revelation. If anybody thinks that those folks back in the 17th century had more knowledge of God than we do now they discount the continuing action of the Holy Spirit who is alive and living within us.
Read the ESV (English Standard Version0 or the ASV (American Standard Version).
You'll get a lot more out of it than that simplistic child's version the NIV.

RSV, NASB and NIV are generally held to be good translations. KJV is not modern English, so if you want to actually understand the passages it's not a great choice (if you can understand Shakespeare, that's another story). It also has a younger source material than most more modern translations, which means additions and errors added to the text.

unique texts can't be thoroughly expressed in translation. That reported, some translations are (plenty) extra advantageous than others. the suitable version of the Hebrew Bible available is the Artscroll Stone version. you may oftentimes discover it at extra advantageous bookstores.
