First and foremost i must say i am not trying to be funny nor rude but asking out of plain old ignorance i ask questions! and FOR THE PEOPLE WHO DO NOT KNOW THE DEFINITION OF IGNORANCE LOOK IT UP, it simply means The condition of being uneducated, unaware, or uninformed. Stupidity on the other hand means knowing but caring about what u know(lol)

so:
I was watching the news earlier with my family and it was showing warren jeffs or something like that and one of his wife and he had like 50 kids by 5 wives and everything and someone told me that he was also married to 7 of his first wives kids which would be his own daughters so i guess my question is what is mormonism and its beliefs? and do they really marry their own children?

thanks in advance muahzzzzzzzzz :)

I don't think that this is really within the Mormon doctrine. I think this guy is a maniac who changed rules to accommodate himself and some people foolishly follow(ed) him. I'm not Mormon(Latter Day Saint or LDS) but I have exchanged with some in the past and I just don't think that this is a fair representation. I'm a Christian, Catholic to be exact, and am very much against abortion however I don't think that it's right to bomb abortion clinics nor kill their doctors. I think that this is similar. The fact that one or some from a group that profess to have certain beliefs commits an offense, it shouldn't bring down the group as a whole. Just the maniacs that commit the atrocities.

Waren Jeffs is a cult leader, not a Mormon. The media will describe him as a fundamentalist Mormon, but he is no way affiliated with our church, and has different beliefs. Polygamy is not practiced in our church. We are the 4th largest church in the US, so if we did do that you would see it all over. I myself got married after graduating college and starting my career. I was 24 when I got married, and 26 when I had my first child, and now at 28 and pregnant with my 2nd. We think we want one more after this one. I don't think that is much different than the norm. If you really accurate information about our church go to http://www.lds.org. Here people make up complete lies like a poster did above by saying we worship Jospeh Smith, which is ridiculous. We believe in the Bible, prefer to use the King James Version, as do a lot fo other Christian religions. We believe Jesus is our savior and redeemer. We believe that we should follow his example of loving one another and in doing good works.

Warren Jeffs and his group are NOT members of the mainstream LDS church. They are what is called Mormon Fundamendalists. They split off back when the LDS were told they couldn't make Utah a state and be polygamists, too. They banned the practice. They excommunicate anyone caught doing so. The Bible is VERY explicit about not marrying siblings, first cousins, own children, etc. Its lengthy and detailed. Pray for them. They are in need of salvation, not anyone's criticism.

Since they described these girls as "his first wife's kids" I'm presuming they are _not_ in fact his kids. Otherwise they would have said "his daughters" or "his daughters by his first wife." My first guess is they're talking about stepdaughters.

Also, please understand that Warren Jeffs is _not_ a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints i.e. a Mormon. He leads a splinter group called the Fundamental Church of Latter Day Saints. One of the sticking points between the groups is polygamy.

Many girls get married young (by our standards) in the FLDS. While this is odd to us, its not odd at all in a historical context. Girls used to get married young all of the time.

The people you are mentioning are not members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, or Mormons. If at one time they were, they were excommunicated by the Church. Go to www.lds.org to learn more about the Mormon Church. Don't just google "Mormon" because lots of people have published anti-Mormon propaganda that is untrue. If you want to really learn about the church, look up the local Missionaries! Good luck and God Bless!

This question is akin to asking why Catholic men rape little boys. These are the horrible exceptions, not the rule. One idiot can make the whole bunch look bad. I do not agree with any of the Christian sects, but they all have their good points as well as bad. Most LDS (mormons) are good, normal people. Have a nice day.

There are many sects that call themselves mormon and very few of them actually practice that. Those that do have realtivly few members. The one you are thinking of is called the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They are not in any way affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints(LDS).

Because the people you are referring to arn't Mormons, they are a splinter group from the LDS Church (formal name of the "Mormon Church"). The marital habits of real Mormons are no different from those of any other Christian.

I heard about that too. and Mormons who practice polygamy and even marrying their own children belong in a fundamentalist Mormonism. but I don't know exactly if Mormonism as a whole practice that.

Uhhh....

No one is allowed to date until they're 16 in the LDS church...

So...I dunno what you're talking about.

OHHH!!!! Warren Jeffs is NOT LDS...he's FLDS...his church broke off from the original church....same books, but they don't follow the current prophet....

Just make sure you realize the difference. There are 6 Mormon churchs...but the largest, LDS, has over 13 million....the rest have under 100,000...some only have a few hundred....
