there was something loose on a tooth (premolar) in my lower jaw and i pulled it out and it ended up being a piece of tooth. it's very little but the tooth is now missing a small piece near where it holds intself to the gum. cavity is surrounding the tooth. what would the dentist reccommend? i'm so scared...my mom isn't making the dentist appointment fast enough. what would happen? please help.

The dentist will recommend getting the decay out of the tooth and filling in the space with metal or dental filler.

He will first deaden the gum with a q-tip that has a topical anesthesia on it - it will taste like a pina colada or something (you know - pineapple and coconut?). He'll wait a while for the gum to go numb.

Then, he'll give you a shot of anesthesia (you won't feel it, because your gum will be numb.) He'll wait a while longer for your whole jaw to go numb.

Then, he'll use the air drill to clean up the cavity. (Again, all you'll feel is some pressure.)

Finally, he'll fill in the hole with some cement or something.

You'll be fine. Take an mp3 player and listen to tunes. He'll be through before you know it, and you won't hear the tools being used.

Get some temp filling material at the drug store or at the discount store. Dry your tooth with a tissue, put the filling material into the hole and follow the directions on the package. This should keep it from being sensitive until you can get to the dentist, which will probably be sometime next week

He will probably recommend a root canal since it is close to the gum.
