My class viewed a film on contemporary feminist spirituality this morning that mostly focused on Goddess worship and featured very few men. Because of this, the one male who decided to attend class today asked if the men in these religions play any specific roles. Half of the women in the class immediately jumped down his throat and said rather ugly things to him, but I think it was a legitimate question for someone who knows nothing about the religion. Are there specific roles for men and women within these belief systems? Sources to email and/or post would be appreciated!

In the majority of modern Goddess worship traditions, men are seen as equals, not better or superior.
In fact, when celebrations are performed through ritual, the men are just as equal as the women, although the male is more of a "helper" in those rites. Although there are some dramatic recreations of certain Pagan holidays that are completely played out by males.
Since most mainstream religions view women as inferior, some women prefer all female groups, these are basically called Dianic Traditions.
Without either sex, it would be impossible to mate and have children, therefore neither is superior nor inferior.
Hope this helped some.

Are we specifically talking about Wicca?

In the Dianic tradition of Wicca, there are no roles for the men to play. It's strictly a feminine religion. Generally speaking though, Wicca holds men just as high as women because one could not be without the other - much like Yin and Yang.

Men don't play any specific roles in Wicca (neither do woman) other than being a High Priest in a coven. But really, if you're Wiccan you're your own Priest/ess, unless of course you're a total fluff-bunny.

Hope this helped.

I would think they could be priests along with the priestesses. They'd just need to know the religion and believe in it. Wicca seems to focus more on the feminine side but I've seen males post here that they were involved-I've even met a few who say they're Wiccan. They just seem to have a large amount of respect for females, in general.

This is an example of classic "religion!" by any name it may be called.

Religion cannot stand a worthy challenge and reveals its true close minded nature by it response to such questions!!!

They worship a false god and become pawns for Satan and his demons and when they die, they go to hell along with all those who refuse to accept Jesus as their Lord.
