There is one argument a LOT of Christians use - "Ok then, how did the molecules come about?" well I ask: "How did God come about? He would be FAR more complex than anything else in the universe wouldn't you say?"

Rachel, I know that you don't like what Edge said, but he's actually got a grasp of it. God is not physical. He's not some guy floating out in space that if we just get a powerful enough telescope, we could see Him. God is the great "I AM". That means that He's eternally in the present. The concepts of space and time are things He gave to us, so we could get a picture of what is going on. He's also omnipresent - He's everywhere that exists - so space doesn't really matter to Him either.
You and I can only be in one place and one time. But God is in all places and in all times all at once, and always.
When we look at the physical things around us, we wonder how and when we (and all this stuff around us) got here. God just always IS. He is not bound by physical laws, because He's not physical. If you cannot, or will not see this, then you will certainly have a hard time finding an answer to your question.

1. If God was created, He would be a creation and would therefore cease to be God.
2. God exists outside of time. Everything in time has a beginning. Since God exists outside the realm of time, He has no beginning.
3. There's no way our finite puny minds will ever understand fully all their is to know about an infinite wise God.
*Notice how I said OUR which refers to EVERYONE in the world*

Theologians and philosophers have always maintained that God is ultimate simplicity, not ultimate complexity. And there is nothing inherently illogical about anything having always existed. The question is not who made what, but who initiated the chain of causality.
Quid pro quo, what do you think the first cause was?

as in any theory of origins, you must make ONE assumption and take it as true. in the theory of the big bang, the assumption is that a bang created the universe from nothing (or somehting like that). in Christianity the assumtion is that God is eternal, and created the universe. therefore Christians believe that God was always there. as a separate entity, separate from time and space itself. outside of the laws of the universe, and outside of rational thought - for he is, was, and ever shall be.

It's something we'll never fully understand until the afterlife. God transcends time and space. No one truly knows how he came into existence, he's just been there. Something had to have created everything and that something is God. It's really hard to explain but it's just something we accept. It's our best understanding of the world around us at the time being.
I could sit and argue all day... but it's almost impossible to convince someone that God exists. It's either you believe or you don't and that choice is entirely up to you.

That's an argument that Christians and scientists can debate about for years since either case will bring up the question, "OK, so how did THAT come about?"
God asks you for faith and trust, since He is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords - He does not need to prove Himself to us (We do). The Creator of everything will definitely know more about the universe than humans.
You search for an answer, though, and you find "I AM" in the Bible, and nothing in science textbooks.

You will not accept God because your little mind is too small for infinite definitions.
Well,
RACHEL, if you were open-minded enough, you should be able to accept that God is God, just like how you would accept conjectures of Big Bang even though you were not there to witness it.
