Whenever your stuff disappears, explorer.exe is crashing. If that happens, press ctrl alt delete and go to process and check to see if explorer is still running, most likely it isn't. If it is, end the task and then click back on the applications tab. Click on "new task..." type explorer.exe.

The computer should act normally again. This is only a temporary fix each time it blinks. Only use it if stuff disappears but doesn't come back.

For a long term solution, reinstall spybot s&d and install adaware. Download a program called "ccleaner" and fix the registry. It's a good program.

If things persist you could always reformat, but do that as a last resort.

Check your preferences to see if you selected "hide toolbar." Also, check your preferences for your desktop and display. Sounds like you have something checked that you don't want. That's usually the problem. If the toolbar appears when you put the cursor at the top or bottom of the screen that is usually what you have selected in your preferences and settings.

When you uninstalled spy-bot search and destroy did you delete quarantined files. If not then all of those files were returned to you computer and they have malware in them.
