"Fear exists to warn us of danger, not to make us afraid of it."
(Duncan MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod, "Highlander: The Series")
That's about as succinct as it gets for heathens. Our Havamal says that "the bold live the best lives" and that "the coward believes he shall live forever, if the fight he faces not, but old age shall not spare him."

I don't have a religion. But the role of fear in religion in general is analogous to the role of yeast in bread: Religion can't rise without it.

fear has no role in my beliefs because fear leads to failure.
that being said, i cannot say that i do not have fears. everyone is afraid of something, but i believe that it is recognizing that fear and how you behave when you are afraid that really matter. it's so easy to just sit back and let fear guide your actions. it's being the master of your fears that takes hard work.

Unfortunately Christianity has used fear like many other religions to inspire people to believe what religious teachings it contains, true or false as they may be. Fear of going to hell is a biggie. Fear of loosing God's Love. Fear of being wrong. Fear of falling from grace or the straight path and the devil will get ya.
This is contrary to the teachings of Jesus when he says not to fear God but Love him with all your heart and soul.
I would say that fear is the opposite of Love and God is all about Loving his children, not making them fear him. That is man's way of manipulating people to believe what they are not able to make them believe and obey. God does not want you to come to him in fear. What Loving Father would? The only fear anyone should have is not having God in their life. It is my conception that without God there would be no Universe of us. God is spirit and we are a fragment of God.

Think deeply, and you will come to know that all religion are based upon greed and fear. Greed (includes existence too) and fear are our basic instincts and that has emerged as religion, which itself is based upon ultimate greed and fear.
A wrong road will lead you at a wrong destination.

No fear at work in y religion. You either do good stuff or you don't, it's up to you, you choose. You shouldn't have to fear your own choice if you are making it
