Is there such thing as Crime Lab detectives like in the CSI shows? If so how much do they make? What do patrolmen and detectives make in major cities?

Metro Denver Patrol guys make a base pay of $45k starting through to $75K after 4-5 years. Add up to another 30% for overtime etc. In my PD detectives make the same as patrol, other department, (ie DPD) pay their detectives more.

Regarding CSI's, most CSI work in my PD is done by beat officers with CSI training. The more in depth stuff by our crime lab personnel.

first of all don't believe t.v. csi is nothing like the real deal if you really want to know about that job go visit a real crime lab you might be surprised as too how different it is. As far as patrolmen and detectives I work for the Chicago police dept. the starting salary for patrol is 60K a year as a detective you make a bit more depending on the year on the job

We dont have those guys in NY...ok, we do, but they are not like on TV. I'm with the NYPD and we start at 25,000 a year and top out at just under 60k a year. Dectectives are in the mid 60's a year for the most part, except for a few 1st grade guys that get as high as 93...but thats very rare, most are in the high 60's. The guys that do work our crime labs and ect's are paid by rank...the same as everyone else.
