You DON'T tell her! Sometimes in life we are dispointed with certain gifts. We get over it and be thankful that someone thought of us.

Sometimes we get disappointed with presents that are given us, but we must smile, say thank you and make the other person feel good. It is better to give love and thanks than to turn around and say "but it is the wrong color".
Keep it, whatever it is, and a year or two from now, give it to somebody else as a present. Many do that and they always have a cupboard full of "stuff" they don't want or like, to give to others.
Don't forget it is only "stuff" Feelings and emotions are what is important in life, and love for each other. Stuff goes as it did in the L.A. fires. Everybody was glad that they were still alive.

You're going to hurt your sister's feelings you said it yourself that she was so happy. I wouldn't say anything directly ,but next time your birthday roles around I would tell your mom or dad to let your sister know how your likes have changed and maybe she should give you a gift card instead. I have a 13 & 21 year old sister and I have given them gift cards for the longest time now . It's better for everyone around . Good Luck .

You don't. As you said, she was "so happy when she gave it..." The kind thing would be wear it once or twice -- like maybe her birthday or even next year's Diwali, and then just pack it away... maybe later, when you have a daughter of your own, you could 'gift it to her' and tell her a lovely story that starts "how happy my sister was giving it this to me..."

YOU DON'T TELL HER! She gave you something she thought you would like. If you didn't care for the color or even the item, you surely were happy to see how much your sister cared and hoped you liked it. Why in the world would you want to tell her such a thing. That is rude and immature.

this is how. you make these words come out of your mouth, "I hate this present". WA-LAH!! lmao
btw: if she seemed SOO happy when she gave it to you, don't tell her at all! it's like, super childish. she spent money to get it for you, and thought you'd like it. next year tell her what you want, or ask for a gift card so you can get something that you know you'll like!

Don't say anything - that would be childish. At least someone thought of you on your birthday - that is what gift giving is about - telling someone that you love them and that you are thinking of them. It's not about what you get (or what you give).

Don't tell her.
If you must, just ask her for the receipt saying that you already have that, and you want a different color.
Then, instead of exchanging it, buy something that you actually like.

what are you a child?
You don't say that you hate it. You say thank you. She took her time and money to buy you a gift that she thought that you would like. She got the gift FOR YOU, so deal with it and grow up.

You don't - you say thank you. The gift is in the giving, not the item itself. She thought enough about you to get you the gift....
