They don't hurt too much. There's not much you can do to minimize the pain. You could pop an advil about 20 minutes before you go in for your shot...don't take more than one advil (since it's a blood thinner, you might bleed more after the shot).
Just make sure you wear a short sleeve tee shirt so they can get to your arm. Bring some candy for after your shot (if you're really nervous you might feel a little light headed due to your nerves, something sugary like a sucker might make you not feel so light headed).
I don't know how old you are, but you could bring a tiny teddy bear or stuffed toy to squeeze while you get your needle...it works.
Good luck tomorrow! Needles aren't that bad...just don't look at them!

It's not that bad. You have to keep telling yourself that it's no big deal.
Remember-----do not tense-up that arm when you get the injection. If the needle is injected into a muscle that is flexed, that will make the shot-site sore.
As soon as the nurse is done, have her/him put a bandaid on it and begin to rub your arm. Slowly, but firmly. That will really help to move the just-injected medication around. If you don't rub it, the medication will stay in that one area and it can be very sore for at least a week.
You can also use ice. Put some ice into a ziplock baggie, wrap the baggie in a thin towel and put it on your arm for 20 minutes. Take the baggie off after 20 minutes and let your arm warm-up for 30 minutes---then you can put the towel-wrapped baggie back on your arm for another 20 minutes. You can keep doing that---20 minutes on/30 minutes off----3 or 4 times. You should be fine by then. (Don't leave the ice on your arm for any longer than 20 minutes at one time. If you do leave it on longer, you'll freezer-burn your skin and damage it.)

You look like one sad little monkey. Cheer up. Take some Tylenol before the shot is given to you and thank the good Lord someone aborted their baby so the scientists have fetal cells to culture the hepatitis B vaccine in.

The shot takes all of 10 seconds... and if you keep telling yourself it will hurt then it will. Instead tell yourself that it wont... and surprise... you'll find out it doesnt.
If you're really that freaked out, buy Emla (you can buy it over the counter at any pharmacy). Put it on the site of injection an hour beforehand... it freezes the area.
