Obvious contradiction, but what's the explanation for it?

"And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them." (Exodus 6:3.)

Genesis 22:14, "And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen."

Okay. Everytime it does say Jehovah the translation in the Hebrew is actually YHWH of YHVH, the tretragrammaton or whatever. Anyway, the contradiction still applies, whether you say Jehovah in those two scriptures or YHWH.

First Jehovah is not Hebrew it is English.

If Jehovah is wrong because of the "J" then so is Jesus, Jeremiah, Jehu, Jonah, and the list goes on.

When I look up Jehovah in my english dictionary it says:

"God's name in English and equal to the Hebrew Yahweh"

When I look up Yahweh in this same english dictionary,

It isn't listed, Why? because Yahweh is Hebrew and not English.

Which is wrong? Santiago or James?

Exodus 6:3 means that Prior to the Law code the understanding of Who and What Jehovah is wasn't as clear as it was after the law code.

Prior to the Law code, the worship of Jehovah was based on personal ideas, and not on written knowledge.

Moses and the Israelites came to Know Jehovah with a far greater understanding.

They also came to know what the Name meant.

"He shall become" or "He causes to become"

As far as bad translations, I am is the bad translation, cause God's name means so much more.

Besides the excellent point made by about the lack of a "J" in Hebrew, the Torah is written using NO VOWELS. So if you take that lack, then do an equally sloppy translation into English, you could end up with 216 possible vowel combinations. So the odds are great that Jehovah, even without the "J" issue, is incorrect.

Jehovah-jireh means basically God will see....as per say in the mount........(mans extremity is Gods opportunity)
God saw his plight and provided....

He was known as I AM the LORD to Abraham....but by knowing HIM by Faith , Abraham knew GOD , and walked / talked / and ate with GOD on the plains of Mamre....
And as its revealed to us that GODS NAME IS JESUS....
and as Jesus said to the sect of Jews "" Before Abraham was I AM""........
His people knows who HE IS...
and by the name of Jehovah ..they did not call Him , but by instruction to Moses in Exodus 3:14-15 He said ""I AM THAT I AM tell Israel I AM hath sent me .... thus shall ye say unto the children of Israel, The Lord God of your fathers the God of Abraham , the God of Isaaac and the God of Jacob hath sent me unto you; this is my Name for ever and this my memorial unto all generations.........

but by that name Jehovah was i not known unto them.....cause they didnt call him Jehovah...........

It means they didn't know it was God as opposed to someone else, but they knew it later. The past tense was used here.

Jehovah is a BAD translation of the Hebrew name of God, which is spelled Yud-Hey-Vav-Hey.

There's no "J" sound in Hebrew.
