Theists: If you found out your child's teacher was an atheist, would you pull your child out of that class/school so that they wouldn't be influenced by them?

Most seem to think I am contemplating this for myself. I am an atheist. I was told a while back by a devoted christian that is what he has/will do and I wanted to know how many others are like him.

No. I believe religion should be taught by the family, which means my child would not be in a religious school. In any other school, there would be no reason for that teacher to discuss her personal beliefs with the students, so it wouldn't be an issue. Now if it turns out that she IS using that classroom to try and influence kids, that's a different story. That would bother me whether she was christian, atheist, muslim....whatever.

Why would an atheist teacher try to influence the class? It's like saying a vegetarian teacher could or would do the same. I think any teacher that would do that is in the wrong profession - it's a personal belief. Of course, she/he may explain what an atheist is but I doubt if they would try to influence the kids.

No I teach my kids what I want them to learn the teacher teaches them what they must know to get by in life. I am not atheist but I also don't want to make my kids believe what I do just cause I do. I had to come to my own conclusions about what I believe and so will they, it's apart of life, learning who you are. I believe a atheist teacher wouldn't be standing in a class room telling my child what to believe, nor do I believe if they did it would be the end all factor of my childs spirituality. I also want my kids to understand that in the real world not everyone thinks the same/ and thanks I think I will have a drink
lol!

There would be no point in that. Christian are called to be a light to the world; we cannot run and hide ever time we feel out numbered.
Besides, people tend to be atheists either because they were raised that way, their Christian parents were very bad examples, or they had really poor relationships with their parents.
Often when a child of a Christian home becomes an adult, they try atheism for a while, but rarely do they stay atheist.

No. I really don't think that public school teachers influence a childs or his family's beliefs. I sub at a school and it has never come up in any of the k-12 classes I've taught. I am offended that the Pledge of Allegiance is no longer said aloud. But we still have a mandatory moment of silence for prayers.

I would only consider pulling that child out of that school if the teacher's behavior is influencing your child. I wouldn't personally want an Athiest teacher myself, or my child (if I had one). But, think this through thoroughly. Be careful with what you decide. Good luck!!

If I choose to send my child to a public school I probably would not take my child out of that class in hopes that a child like faith would influence the teacher. The students aren't the only ones who learn in schools.

Of course not. What do I care whether the teacher is an atheist. When I was a teacher I was an atheist and I didn't cause any harm to the kids. Do you think that atheists somehow have power over Christians? Satan has no power over God, neither do atheists have any spiritual power over Christians.

No. Not until I see proof of their influence on my kid's beliefs. Good teachers are hard to find, and until there's solid proof of wrongdoing, then u shouldn't punish a good teacher or ur kid out of a great education based on differing religious beliefs. This also depends on the grade level and age of my kid too. IF the kid is in high school, then I'd consider keeping them in the class if the teacher was good, and my kid was making the grade...and also if the class was necessary to graduate. Because my kid can handle differing opinions then, and it's just a test to see if he/she is shaky. But if in middle or elementary school, I'd do the first mentioned, because they're too young to handle such a powerful decision.

Nope, Although I am not an atheist, but I would probably try to influence my child more to believe in God, and as long as that person does not bring their beliefes into the classroom, I am good to let my child in the class..
