Seriously, there is loads of religions out there how can one person be sure theirs is the right one? I mean no one lived way back then so how can anyone know for sure? Is a six armed god any whackier then someone rising from the dead? How can people be so sure that the bible and other religous readings aren't just works of fiction by a creative mind? Personally, I don't believe in any one religion...I have a good heart and live a good life and when I die what happens to me happens. If "god" rejects good people because they didn't worship him their entire lives, do we really wanna spend eternity with some holy dictator anyway?

They can not all be right. But they can all be wrong.

What if the holy dictator gave His life for you.
What if He promissed you eternal life-I mean when you die you will not have any fear of dieing.
What if many others gave their life just because they believed in Him. I'm not talking about suicide bombers.
What if the holy dictator provided a book that gave us lifes lessons and if we obeyed life would be easier be less, what can I say-not such a disaster. I mean-pay taxes, no jail
Abstinence-no stds-no unwanted pregnancy.
No lies-a relationship with mother and father.

Anyway-You know cars have a owners manual so what's so hard that an entity greater than ourselfs would want to have a part in our lives and direct us so maybe we would not have to learn everything the hard way.
Sometimes all you have to do is ask Him and wild things happen. All you have to do is Ask..

I have a feeling something I just said here will click-Believe it..
PS. You said-"god" rejects good people because they didn't worship him.
God rejects No one. Only People reject God..

Arguing over religions is for silly people. Most of the times, they don’t even have any knowledge of the religions they are trying to put down. Heck! They don’t even know the religions they believe in. I noticed Billy B said, “The Bible was written by GOD it is not man,s words it is GOD,s words. If you will take time to study the Bible as I have I believe you will find that mankind could not have written it and if they could have written it they wouldn,t have written it.” He needs to go see his priest.

That reminds me, many people say your faith isn’t strong if you don’t believe certain things from the religion. What people need to understand is, however, if you don’t make at least an effort to see through the lies in the religions, you are a fool. It has nothing to do with having less faith if not more. For an extreme ridiculous example, God doesn’t want us to believe there are tickets you can purchase with money to heaven as Vatican once taught innocent people in the past to make profit out of them.

You believe in Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, or whatever? Study them! Study the context around the religion! Don’t just mindlessly believe whatever people are saying around you or “A” book you read.

I no longer believe some major and some minor stuff they teach in Catholic although I was graduated from Catholic schools. I believe in God who oversees us with good will. I don’t believe people would go to hell just because they didn’t believe Christian based religion nor I believe just being good isn’t good enough as Rev. TomCat has mentioned above because I believe that line and story was made so the church can make profit. The problem is not what the Rev. TomCat has said, but what I learned from the church. There are many rules you have to follow to be just good enough from not so good enough. Trust me, God will not close the gate of the heaven on people who have done so much good in life, but have never shown up at church on weekends to “donate”, which you are required to do according to the church, to be good enough in the eye of God otherwise not.

Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism… All these religions are made by men. More importantly, religions are made to control a group of people. Within their own religions, they have made their own rules and laws, which may or may not be justifiable or even feasible to a prudent individual who are not in their groups.

Do you see where I am getting at?

God’s in your heart. Be a good person. Help people who need your help.

The reason people debate religion is because they think they know the truth. Many have studied and learned what has been written and take on faith what they have been taught and read. No one today can say they lived back then unless they believe in reincarnation and have had their own experience of past life regression which proves to them alone that they have experienced. They are no more right about what they believe than you are about your questioning.
The bible states that being a good person is not enough.
Jesus made it plain to us in his one parable of the master and the coins, that we are to make an investment of what God has given us and to be actively seeking God and persuing his rightiousness through Love for him and out neighbors. There are many messages in there that teach us that just being a good person is fine but what have you done to evolve spiritually. If I told you that when you die, that the energy you collected by doing nothing with your faith will not destroy you but will take you to a place where you yourself have been attracted to by your own spiritual life. In my Fathers house there are many mansions and you are to build up treasures for heaven. By Lovign others and Lovign God through service, you build your spiritual energy and when you do die, you will be attracted to like energy. As in the parable of the coins, when the master came back, he expected interest in what he has given you. He has given you this life so you can invest it. Not just sit on your down side thinking , oh well what ever happens. That is a cop out because you do not what to take the time to seek the answers. Logic tells you that people may be right. God may not exist so why bother.
Just if we are spirits and we do go to a place that we deserve, then you may be sorry you did not invest your life in seeking to master your life and follow right thinking, Rightiousness. There is no way I can give you the faith I have. I looked many years to find it. I earned it and won't let it go.
Maybe someday you will seek with an open heart. God is not a dictator. He created the Laws of the universe for you and your well being. If you violate them, that is your doing, so put the blame on yourself.

You make a good point, but you know people decide what they believe and if your belief isn't the same, you are wrong and they have to endlessly point that out to save you.

As far as the Bible, there is a fair amount of scientific proof that some of the out-there stories are actually true. And I have no doubt that Jesus was a real person. As far as the rest of it, that's for others to believe as I no longer believe it.

Tell a child something repeatedly with the threat of hell looming over him , and he will believe whatever his parent says (for awhile or forever).
A lot of conservative religions don't allow their children to learn about other religions and discourage them from taking part in mainstream American secular traditions, so their kids won't be tempted to stray and abandon their beliefs.
I believe the Big Bang Theory. I also believe there could be a higher power responsible for everything that is keeping silent because he/she/it gave humankind free will.
I also celebrate some traditions for different religions, but I focus on the secular aspects of them. (ex. Santa Claus over Jesus)

It's a good question and one I often ask myself. What REALLY makes one religion superior to another? All religions feel religious awe --my speculation is that either i) there is a Deity (impersonal and apprehendable by unknown means) and most of the euphoria is a psychological repercussion of contact with that Deity OR ii) there is no God and they are all just deluded.

Neither is certain, but hey... whatever float your boat, right? :p

As someone who does practice a specific Faith, I truly don't have the time nor the energy to spend on convincing someone else that they are "wrong" and I am "right". So to answer your question I don't understand. As long as I am allowed to live my life the way I choose I will not waste my time degrading someone else's deeply held beliefs. I do not want to be treated that way, so I will not treat someone else that way. Or at least I will try not to, I am not perfect.

It sounds like you do believe there is a God. When people at least believe I don't think they can be criticized at all. God is there. And you are right, who would want to be with a holy dictator anyways... If you stay open minded like you are and ask God to show you who He is, He will. I don't think he likes "holy dictators" either. :)

Give it all a few more millenniums. The Sun will grow cold, it's gases will expand and after it deep-fries the Earth, it will collapse back on itself....it's gravity pulling the Earth in with it. Then the question of who's religion was right will be moot for a very long time.

I think belonging to a certain faith or religion is part of a persons identity. People, in general, want to be first and to be the best and to crow about it a little. It does not matter to me what a persons faith or religion is as long as their beliefs do not affect me and vice versa.
