The neck shot is a very poor shot to take unless you have skill it is the spinal cord or artery not the neck shot that is the killing factor!
A leg shot is not a killing shot unless there is arterial damage or mass trauma to tissue that add factors as in blood loss, infection or starvation due to the inability to feed!

Hi Cassie. Neck shot with a suitable caliber of .243 & above is even quicker than a chest shot to the vitals. A leg shot may not even be fatal unless it bleeds out. And I guess it could die of old age in ten or fifteen years.
Best.

A shot to the leg on a deer is never a good thing. The time it takes for a deer to die from this wound would depend on the shot placement and caliber of round. If you wounded a deer with a shot to the leg, leave it to die over night before tracking it. If you go after it right away, alll you will do is push it further into the woods. If you it the deer in the guts, again leave it over night.

A neck shot is a pretty good anchoring shot. Usually causes near instant death. Also the impact to the neck will cause a rapid disruption of nerve impulses to the brain. My father-in-law used this shot most of the time. I NEVER saw one of his animals move after it collapsed on the bullets impact.

The best thing to do is to make sure that the deer does not suffer so you have to shoot it again make it a clean shot that way you won't have to worry about the answer!

Well, if you hit a major blood vessel the animal will bleed to death after several agonizing minutes. You hit a leg, break it, or blow it off, it might take several torturous days before pain, infection, or another predator finishes it off.
A quick clean kill is the obligation of any responsible hunter.

They'll usually run a little and they lose a lot of blood and get tired and lay down and die there. Usually, a few minutes but sometimes they can go longer if they don't lose blood very fast.

Depend on where it is hit. If hit in the brain, death could be instant.
