I had several pagan friends on mine tell me that they don't do Santa because it's not part of the path. LOL I'm sorry but that is just silly. It's all in FUN! Does anyone else actually feel like this?

We celebrate Yule, but we do have Santa on "Christmas". I have discovered as of this morning that its rather hard to explain to a five year old that Christmas and Yule are different though. I was just informed that "Yule IS Christmas Mommy. You get presents for both". I had to laugh at that one. LOL

For the record it was followed up with "What is a Christ anyhow?"

Yes and we also have "Father Yule" at our church's Yule celebration. I have never heard any fellow pagans have problems with the Santa thing.

And in response to John, yes I do have a statue of Buddha in my house and I'm not opposed to celebrating other religious holidays. There are great teachers and great truths in all the world's major religions.

Well, I have no children to play Santa to, but if I did, I might do it for them when they're small for Solstice (the 22nd this year), probably with some Pagan twist since there has been some speculation about his ties to Wotan. Actually, I do put out a wonderful decorative Christmas plate showing Santa riding a goat.

I do give gifts from "Santa" to my Christian nieces.

I think it's just plain fun, too. And I remember how privileged I felt when I figured out that Santa wasn't real. After that I got to help my parents play "Santa" for my little sister. It was a blast.

Yes! I am pagan and still have Santa included in the celebrations. My pagan yule celebration is separate. Santa is included as part of the whole fun part of Christmas - in my mind it really has nothing to do with religion.

If I adopt kids, I'll do the Santa thing with them. I celebrate Christmas...well, I celebrate Yule with the added plus of Christmas presents and Santa stuff, 'cause it's what I grew up with. ^^; And hey, who doesn't love to get presents for a random reason every year?

Santa and everything to do with him have next to nothing to do with the religion behind Christmas.

I have 3 children, two of them still believe in Santa.
Santa is part of the magic of childhood. Who am I to take that away from my kids. The Rede states do as tho wilt but harm ye none. Letting my kids believe in Sants does not harm anyone.
We dont call it christmas in my house we call it Santa Day.
As i live in the southern hemisphere this does not clash with the more spiritual Yule, which we also celebrate with as much gusto.
Blessed Be

Santa and his wife (we've decided) Befana.
He's the Holly King.
She's the Yule Witch.

EDIT: John, we have celebrated Chinese New Year (not Chinese), some of Hanukkah (not Jewish), and have thought of celebrating a few nights of Ramadan with some local Muslim families (Not follower of Islam). I like my kid to learn by doing. We research and respect. What I am is descended from the peoples who invented the traditions you now associate with Christmas. "Santa' has Pagan roots, babe, as do most Christian saints. I'd like celebrate my culture as I see fit, without being judged by anyone.

I know a couple of Pagans that are like that. I don't see anything wrong with it though. I use plenty of decorations with Santa on them and though my kid is 17, we still joke that Santa is coming. I wonder though, do they hand out candy on Halloween? That isn't part of the Path either. They didn't used to hand out candy to kids. The kids used to take food to those who needed it on that night in some cultures. In others, it was merely a memorial for those who passed on. No candy involved really. ;-)

Huh? Santa has always been part of Yule for us... Just plain fun for the kids. To me, he's a representation of the Holly King...

my last name is an ethnic version of 'nicholas', therefore i consider myself a citizen of the north pole by birthright, and collect santa ornaments.

a lot of pagans around here have been saying that santa is adopted from pagan tradition, but i've never heard of it. it doesn't matter because --we're pagans-- we get to take and use what we want, just like our ancestors did.

i do strongly suspect tho, that st. nicholas wasn't really a historical person.

edit:
celestian vega, if you don't let grandpa out of the closet right now, then there will be no presents for you!!! hehehe
