I am neither any religion or atheist, but logic to me determines the following. This may not be the GOD you know or understand.
God is LOVE ( we'll get to why horrible things are "allowed" to happen later)
I have come to this conclusion because LOVE is an energy that can actually be measured and certainly felt. LOVE at a very high vibration becomes light.
ALL matter in existence is made up of this energy (light) (check ANYTHING under a high powered microscope and you will see atoms etc vibrating at incredible speed). All matter is light slowed down in vibration speed. Everything is made of the same "stuff". Scientists now also say they can trace all matter back to one photon of light - which is LOVE - which is GOD.
So where does this never ending energy come from to drive all this vibration? (Scientists now say that there is enough energy in 1 cubic metre to boil all the oceans!)
ALL existence (seen and unseen) is GOD, this never ending energy. Nothing can exist that is not God - that is impossible.
God is all there is - there is nothing else - therefore we must also be God (the same as a rock, a smell, the wind, a thought, and ALL things).
Churches tend to teach separation (that God is something and we are something or somebody else), when in fact we are all ONE. There is no separation between GOD and us. There is only ONE.
God is not a "person", but the energy above, that is all forms, and of course can speak and relatewith and LOVE you (it created speech).
WE create all there is that is happening everywhere (you may not like this - but its true). Our thoughts are creative energy and each thought goes out into the Universe and form collective "clumps" of beautiful coloured energy, and like clumps "stick" together and eventually create the situation our thoughts have created. For example - If we think "The world is a dangerous place to live" - You are creating that situation. If you think (and say) "The world is a safe place to live" - that will be created (especially if more than one do this. ANYTHING that you think and say creates that situation.
Whatever you pay attention to - is eventually created. Unfortunately this may take years if we are at a low level of consciosness - therefore we beieve it is "happening" to us or GOD created it.
Scientists have now confirmed that extremely small particles are created just by focusing pure attention on them - take off our attention and they dissapear.
This is a very large subject and cannot be explained properly in just a few words.

You can't prove there is a god, and you can't prove there isn't. Therefore atheists can't "defend" our "proof" that there is no god, and neither can theists prove there is one.
It comes down to the available evidence. Atheists look at the evidence, and ask whether the world can be explained by other means than god. And there's nothing in the world that doesn't have the potential to be explained by other means than god.
Although not everything can currently be explained by science, there's every chance that one day it will be able to be. Back in the days of the ancient Greeks, Aristotle wrote that the reason why things stick to the earth is because everything contains a balance of heaviness and lightness, and because of that, things stay where they are. Before that, people probably thought it was due to the gods. Now we know that it's gravity that makes things "stick" to the earth. Our scientific knowledge is still expanding. There is no need for god to explain the world. There is no evidence for god. In fact, there is plenty of evidence that terrible things happen to good people. So we don't believe in god in the absence of any necessity for god or proof that there is one.
You might like to read Richard Dawkin's excellent book, The God Delusion, if you want further information.

I've heard this question fairly often. I'm not sure why some people feel like Atheists, or others who don't believe in a Christian god, must prove that God doesn't exist. Christians don't have to prove that he does.
You have faith that he exists and I don't. It's as simple as that. Why does there have to be "proof" either way? I can't understand why people can't be content to let others live their lives and believe whatever they want to believe.

As most people are aware total mass/energy are thought to be conserved.
However most people do not know Gravitational potential energy is negative.
Rapid inflation results in large amounts of both normal mass/energy and gravitational potential energy which are thought to exactly balance each other.
Most of mass/energy you observe today formed in the first few milliseconds after the big bang as a direct result of the extremely rapid inflation which produces normal energy balanced with gravitational potential energy summing up to zero.

If there was a god he would not play games. He would fix all that is wrong in an instant. The bible has added and excluded excerpts through out its history. Remember when Christianity was beginning it was in competition with the Muslim faith and Jewish faith. It had to gain its power and most times through blood. (The Crusades) Watch the History channel for the real facts to start off. Why would the almighty have to edit himself?

Wow this question again. Ok I'm not trying to say that God doesn't exist but people are abandoning Christianity because they can't find proof that God exist. People sometimes do get tired of false promises. Instead of asking people to prove that God don't exist, why don't you prove that God exist? Why don't you ask God to perform some miracles? Maybe ask him to make fish fly and talk to us saying God exist.

The absolute and complete dearth of any evidence whatsoever. That's first.
Second, Personal experience.
Third, the literally thousands and thousands of different dieties humans have created. It's evidence of a certain pattern we humans have about making up such things.
I'm not even getting into the logic, or lack thereof, when considering any deity, much less one specific deity.
Sorry, it all boils down to one thing: No god.
Case dismissed.

NOBODY can prove OR disprove the existence of God. As an agnostic, I believe that if there is a God, he is a cosmic God, not a personal one (as in the Abrahamic religions).
However, the Abrahamic god of Judaism, Christianity and Islam is another story. I think I can present an argument that some will concede meets a reasonable standard of proof.
.
---
.
Ten FACTS that debunk the Abrahamic Religions
Fact #1:
Men, everywhere on the planet, have created countless gods from time, immemorial.
Fact #2:
No two gods are exactly the same.
Fact #3:
Most gods are dead or dying and their religions are now ancient myths – despite being dominant for hundreds and even thousands of years. The first truly great monotheistic religion, Zoroastrianism, is a millennia older than Judaism and is STILL practiced by a million adherents.
Fact #4:
Scripture was edited and nurtured over the course of hundreds of years. That's not divine inspiration.
Fact #5:
Christianity is a selective copy of previous religions: notably ancient Egyptian, Babylonian and Persian. The story of Jesus unabashedly plagiarizes the stories of Horus, Ahura Mazda and Mithras. The savior theme and the miracles of Jesus' story is a common spiritual model replicated by many religions BEFORE Christianity.
Fact #6:
Abrahamic religions deal in the supernatural (i.e. things that are physically impossible in the natural world). Faith in the supernatural requires suspension of disbelief (i.e. the believer must convince himself that the impossible is possible).
Fact #7:
The 4 gospels of the New Testament are attributed to 4 of Jesus’ disciples: but “Matthew”, “Mark”, “Luke” and “John” are pseudonyms used by anonymous authors, from the Roman Empire, who wrote these gospels (in Greek) long after ALL the disciples were dead.
Fact #8:
The chroniclers and historians of Jesus’ era and region somehow managed not to notice the fantastic achievements and stories of the legendary Jesus or his hordes of followers – despite writing about many other, less note-worthy, contemporaries of Jesus.
Fact #9:
The legacy of the Abrahamic religions is one of intolerance, corruption, schisms, inquisitions, crusades, enmity, war and hatred, that (mostly) continues to this very day.
Fact #10:
Mankind has benefited and advanced through intellectual achievements – not spiritual ones (if there are any). The intellectual discipline of science has never sparked a war or burned a heretic. The world’s charities are non-profit, while the Catholic church is the richest institution of any kind, by far, in the world.

To Fundamentalist Christians:
I address this to you because most adherents leaven their belief with a little common sense. Fundamentalists do not.
These 10 facts are clear and convincing evidence that ALL religions and gods are man-made. Those who deny this evidence are placed in the untenable position of asserting that their particular God and religion is an exception. Maintaining the falsity of the thousands of other religions, while claiming your own is real and true, is transparently ridiculous.
The scientific rigor of proof is exceptionally stringent. Science regards evolution as a proven fact. One can assert that God layered all that fossil evidence in the earth – in just the right sequence – to fool us for some reason: but that assertion has no evidence and can be ruled out without fear of equivocation. In the same way, the assertion that one particular God is real when we know the others are man-made is so unlikely as to be entirely discounted in the absence of some sort of evidence.
If you’re a confirmed, devout, Fundamentalist Christian, I know you will continue to deny. Denial is your stock in trade. So let me try to approach this from your point of view (if I can presume to do so).
You love and believe in God and Jesus and the Bible because you think they’re good, loving, holy and, most importantly, true. You see no contradiction in Original Sin, genocide, war or murder as long as it’s sanctioned by your good, loving, holy and truthful God.
If the Bible says it, you believe it. If the Bible says you’re born an unworthy sinner, then you were born an unworthy sinner. If the Bible says Jesus died for your sins, it doesn’t matter that God is the one who imputed Original Sin upon you to begin with. If God says you’ll rot in hell if you don’t believe in him, then you’ll just have to believe in him . . . you’ll find some way to avoid doubt – some way to sublimate your thoughts: after all, hell sounds like a very nasty place.
Sublimating your thoughts IS essential . . . isn’t it? You’re guilty of adultery or fornication if you lust in your heart. Have you ever lusted? Have you ever sinned? Do you still sin? Then you CAN’T control your thoughts, can you? Of course not. You’re not perfect. You’re human. Because you believe every word of the Bible, you will always feel guilty – because you’re human. How crazy is that? Your religion puts you at odds with yourself. You must spend your life in denial of YOURSELF. No wonder you’re so good at this denial thing. You’ve got it down pat.

I never claimed I can prove anything.
You make a claim there is a god, you need to back it up.
Without evidence of a god, atheism is the default position.
Why do you ask for a defense? I have nothing to defend since I make no claim.

well theres Darwin Theory of evolution. and then theres what i like to think of as the obvious. millions of people die for unexplained reasons, so how can ur loving god even possibly allow this? cancer and AIDS, why would god want to slowly kill off everyone with horrible diseases, and u cant tell me that all these people like deserve it. the Holocaust, why would your god let some insane wacko kill thousands and thousands of inoccent men, women and children? Maybe its not that i dont belive in god its just that i cant believe why people think that he's so loving and mighty, if he really is letting all this stuff happen.
