how come no mention of this in the US media, or is that because they do not want it to a) be known the US is doing well and b) British allies are doing an outstanding job as well
A British-led multi-national force in southern Afghanistan says it has found a network of well-established bunkers at a former Taleban stronghold.

Come on, Paddy.
The US media doens't even admit that we have allies unless there's no way to avoid it.
The Liberals over here don't appreciate you guys, the Dutch, the Canadians, the Poles, Spaniards, El Salvadorans, Germans, Italians, Turks, Greeks, French, Hungarians, Bulgarians, Kiwis, Mongolians, Koreans, Latvians, Estonians,....
Heck, it's the largest coalition in human history and no one seems to know.
But I'll say thanks.
Thank you.

The U.S. news is a poll dictated service. They literally ask their readers what the readers want to read about.
Newspapers in the U.S. have had a hard time. They are getting less customers which has led to viewer advertisers, which has led to fewers stories (historically newspapers are 2/3 advertisements and 1/3 stories). Many newspapers have dropped their reporting staff in favor of using wire services (which makes every newspaper seem identical when covering non local news).
TV news just has time for a quick recap of what has happened during the day, with almost all of it local news. Even CNN (two news stations) uses mostly British reporters
to cover non U.S. news out in the field (otherwise the person is just reading the news off of a wire service which was probably writer by a non U.S. citizen).
Now factor in that most newspapers are are liberals that hate the war in Iraq and that AP reporters don't like the U.S. for the first 5 years, the newspapers have been reporting that the U.S. has been losing in Iraq and Afganistan (never mind that they also reported the British were routed in defeat out of Iraq and Afganistan). Just this week an AP journalist was arrested because it's believed he was an insergent spy and the major press had to admit that there was progress in Iraq. In Iraq, the AP reporters were using false information including unnammed sources that didn't exist telling how bad the U.S. was losing in Iraq (including bombings and mass killings that never happened). When those reporters were exposed they were made editors of all the stories coming out of Iraq.
Afganistan has been put on the sideline because it's a poor example of "how bad/evil/incompetent" the Bush administration is. If there is any news out of Afganistan, it's usually bad news such as the high opium yield, the taliban taking land back and the Afgan men beating their wives.

By posting that link you have almost answered your own question. I've been relying on the "Beeb" and other short wave broadcasters since 1949 for a lot of my news.
The American media are commercial enterprises. They are only interested in something which can draw a crowd to their broadcasts so they can sell them more goods. Just take a look around on these answer boards and see how few Americans even know the first thing about the war on terrorism or the background of the Salafist Jihadists that wish us all dead. I dare say you could gather them all in front of the Finsbury Mosque in London and they would just take pictures of the place rather than ask why Special Branch is so interested in the place.

There has been very little news on Iraq and Afghanistan in the past 6 weeks or so. The fact is, we're winning. Legitimate sources such as these are the only ones reporting the good news in the GWOT:
http://www.arcent.army.mil/media_releases/media_releases.asp
http://www.mnf-iraq.com/
http://pentagontv.feedroom.com/
http://www.state.gov/
http://www.centcom.mil/sites/uscentcom2/default.aspx
Unfortunately not alot of people make use of these sources. Personally, I keep all 5 of them in my Favorites list because they are updated every day.
The surge (along with Iraqis being tired of letting the terrorists ruin their lives) is working. But you're right, the Media doesnt like to report good news.
BTW, I've worked with the Brits on the AWACS and you guys rock!
Rest assured, we in the Military still love you and appreciate your friendship in these hard times.

It's not that the U.S. media doesn't want to give credit to the Brits. The fact is that most of the liberal U.S. media hates to bring forth any news story that shows progress in Iraq or Afghanistan. Sad but true my friend.
