My son was born 6 weeks early due to placenta previa, weighing only 4lbs 9ounces. he was in intensive care for 2 weeks. when he was 10 months old, he started having seizures. After his 3rd one, the neurolologist put him on phenobarbital. At that time, we had early intervention come into our home and do PT,OT and eventually speech therapy with him. he did not start to crawl until he was over 2 years old. the therapists are having a hard time with him because he has very high muscle tone. he does stand now, but won't stay standing, instead jumping up and down. he does alot of rocking back and forth when he sits. he will be 3 yr old in january and he is not talking or walking yet. he just had a seizure last week after going 1yr 9mths without one. we have been to developmental clinics and neurologists and no one seems to know what is wrong with my son, saying they don't do testing until they are 3 yr old. i'm just frustated and just would like some answers. thanks

Wow. I'm sorry. Have you tried any other medication? I have a heard a similar story - one of my student's had seizures and kind of "out grew" them. He's six now. He's doing well with little effects from his tumultuous first few years. I hope something similar happens with your son.....

I don't know if this pertains to your son or not but I just finished reading Jenny McCarthy's book about her son with Autism and I swear it sounds just like your situation. I am absolutely not saying your son is autistic but Jenny's little boy had seizures and she could not get a straight answer from anyone either. Pretty scary stuff when you are just wanting to help your child. I do know that with early intervention they were able to do a lot with her little boy so hopefully the same will be true for you. She has a website as well if you google her name. Best of luck to you!

My son was a preemie too and although we have not had problems with seizure he did not walk until he was 2 1/2 (low tone issues) and didn't talk until just recently (he turned 3 at the end of Sept.) We have just began testing because we were also told to wait until he was three because many children are misdiagnosed under the age of three. Please try not to worry about labels, if he is receiving therapy then labels are not important. We are looking at a CP diagnosis and believe me it doesn't change a way I feel. Just continue to give him any opportunity you can.

What do you anticipate, he's basically 3 years previous and as lengthy because of the fact the adults in his existence make a huge deal approximately him passing gasoline, he will proceed to do it loudly to get an advance out of you. in spite of if the attention is effective or adverse he's getting interest. forget approximately his habit and the laughter will ultimately supply up. regrettably farting is a typical actual function and can't continually be stopped yet ignoring how he reacts to it is a few thing you're able to do. an identical with undesirable language. permit him be responsive to once or twice that the words he might start up applying are no longer superb yet do no longer make a huge deal approximately it. this technique labored nicely in our family contributors and our boys are actually 26 and 20, besides the indisputable fact that well-known outbursts do eminate from our youthful son's room whilst he's enjoying video games.

I'm an Infant Development Specialist and do Early Intervention. Seizures can cause brain damage, which can cause developmental delays. There may not be another diganosis to be given to your little one. It's probably just that the seizures affected his brain when he was 10 months old and is repsonsible for his issues now. He may need additonal meds to control these seizures, if he just had one.
