What can i do to decrease my stuttering?
im doing a presntation on monday,
and whenever i do them i freeze up, get really cold
and my nerves make my stuttering twice as bad as it normally is,
im in grade ten and you would all think kids at this age are mature, but their not, well at least not the ones here
my teacher wants me to do it, because he thinks the only way i can get better is if i actually take risks, which is true...so any thoughts on what i can do to calm down?

I say go for it,just remember that when talking to many others in a room, look at the tops of their heads, not in their eyes.If by chance you do make eye contact, still bounce back and forth until you find the one that you feel most comfortable looking at.The key to any speech or presentation is always keep it accurate, short and interesting.Even throw a bit of humor in now and then, laughter is a winner tool. Good luck,I know you can do it!!

Personally, whenever I'm worried about something, I pray!
You could do some meditation exercises before the presentation. Take three or four slow, long, deep breaths, hold each for a few seconds and release.
A herbal tea would help calm your nerves, and aromatherapy works really well to calm nerves!
Use lavendar oil to calm and relax. You can put a few drops on your pillow the night before, to ensure a peaceful night's sleep, and a few drops on a tissue, for example, to keep in your pocket while you give the presentation. Don't apply to the skin, as oils are too concentrated to be put on your skin, and can cause irritation, etc.
Also, maybe you can find some ways to take your mind off the fact you have a stutter?
Thinking about it and making it the centre of whatever you do, only makes your stutter worse.
Think of it as an evil beast that every time you think about it, you make it stronger! Don't feed it and it will get weaker and weaker!
I hope this helps, and good luck with your presentation, although I'm sure you won't need it!

Public speaking is a practice skill. You will not get good at it unless you keep trying at it.
I have had to do many presentations, and the more i do, the easier they get.
1. know what your talking about.. this will keep you from having to read off notes. Notes are an outline of what your going to talk about
2. slow down, no one ever relazies when you stop for a second. If your getting nervous, or start to stutter, stop and take a breath, collect your thoughts, and then speak. a moment of silence is easier to take by a listener, than an Ummm or ughhhh..
3. practice in a mirror.. i know this sounds stupid, but it helps.
4. Start out with a open question, joke or something to get the class to pay attention to you.. such as "why do you think ___ ...?"
5. dont worry about anyone else, just think of it as telling your friend something. no one likes getting up in front of a class, so no one is going to poke fun at you for doing it.. and if they do, they are that inssecure about doing it themselves.
Hope that helps,
Planning is the key to sucess..

I don't have a stutter but I know people who do who have become good speakers. One of them says he sort of sings presentations in his head. It doesn't sound as though he's singing though. Perhaps this will help you? I'm sorry the kids in your grade aren't mature. That probably makes it worse for you - but maybe you'd feel better if you remember that you're more mature than they are, and that if they don't change they will grow up to be useless adults who no one wants to be around. I hope you do well on your presentation whether you stutter or not - and don't pay attention to stupid kids who make you feel uncomfortable. Don't speak too quickly, breathe, and relax and you'll be fine.

OK, I hate being serious, but here's some SERIOUS advice from a 40-year veteran of public speaking.

Everyone is afraid of public speaking at some time in their lives. Some people get over it, some do not. But the only way to be a good speaker is TO DO IT as often as possible.

Sure, you'll stutter and stammer and make mistakes and feel like a total *** the first few times, but BELIEVE ME, you will improve every time you speak. And eventually you will speak very very well.

Some of the most famous public speakers (actors, comedians, politicians) suffered from incapacitating stage fright until they forced themselves to overcome it. One very famous comedian (sorry, I don't remember which one), said he always threw up just before going on stage. Even when he was one of the most famous public figures. But no matter how scared he was, he always forced himself to go on stage, and he always performed perfectly.

Being afraid is not a weakness. Letting fear control you is a serious weakness.

Enough rambling. Here's a trick I always find helpful when I have to speak in front of an audience.

Visit the room ahead of time so you know exactly what it looks like. "Stake a claim" to it. This makes you the "owner" of that room and puts you in charge of everything in it. Then, just before the speech, try to be the first one in the room so you can greet people as they come in. This now puts you in charge of the audience too.. And because you own the room and are in charge of the people, everyone there has to listen to you and respect you and like you. And believe me, they will.

Good luck.

Just take your time, as much as you need. Before you begin, do some breathing exercises. Take deep breaths for 7 counts, then take exhale for 7 counts, both slowly. Do this for about 20 times. Breathing properly relaxes you. Say a prayer, then give it your best. You may want to take some Yoga classes, I think that it would help you tremendously.
Remember, start practicing your breathing now and nothing but positive thoughts. You'll be fine. Let us know how you did :)

My best friend all through school stuttered...and she use to exercise right before she went up to talk in front of the class...she'd do like 100 jumping jacks or even a jog, right before she had to go in...and it helped her a lot...She also made the kids laugh right off, ..and that lightened the mood...however, no teacher should make you do anything if you're not comfortable.

What type of presentation??? Can you sing it?. Some people who stutter do not when they sing. Practice and look into it.

The main thing is be very assured of what you are going to say. Prepare, prepare, prepare, Know you material well. That will help your confidence. If you stutter just tell them that part was worth repeating. Get them on your side.

luck

breathe. remember that all the other students are just people too, it's no big deal. their minds are merely sieves and as soon as the class is over they'll probably forget any mess-ups you made. trust me, after you're out of high school, it isn't like the movies where they're like "oh god you're the guy who got pantsed in front of everyone" etc - nobody remembers anything. and to be honest nobody really cares, we're all too self-centered to notice much else.
just remember to stay calm, try to breath. breathing is key. focus on something in the room that's not a person and pretend you're alone, just reading to yourself.
don't worry hun, you'll be fine. good luck <3

hey i know what ur feeling like, since i always hated doing presentations too, theres all kinds of strategies to do like picture everyone naked or pretend that nobodys there at all
it wasnt that long ago that i did a english presentation and all what i did was just look at the tip of the everyones heads instead of looking at there face cuz then that would make me more nervious resulting into stuttering
Just make sure u go over and over what u have to say and have confidents in urself, on monday just walk in and think who are these people to judge....hey it worked for me it can work for u

GOOD LUCK!!!
were all in this together.....
