How much do your push-up numbers increase while attending basic? If I go in an am able to complete 60 push-ups for the APFT, how much will that increase while I am at basic?

They may not increase at all, and may even decrease. They tear you down pretty good while you are there. To make a blanket statement that you will increase say 25% would be false at best................

It really varies. I went from not being able to do a single one to doing almost 20 (as a female, I only had to do 16). Now I average almost 40. Other people didn't change at all. My husband went to basic and left doing the same number of push ups.

Word of advice, do what you have to do. There's no incentive to do more while you're in basic. It's AIT and the real army that provide you with incentives to doing really well.

depends on how motivated you are.
I went in doing about 70, and pumped out 100 at airborne school, but that was because I wanted that magic number 100, so it was me pushing myself.

Most people will add about 20 pushups.
But then again my basic was 5 1/2 months.
So it depends on your MoS

Normal basic for non infantry units is about 9 weeks.
So if youre really motivated Id say maybe 15 or 20 if youre high speed.

You can try to work extra after PT, and do a set after each chow session.
And puch out a few during mail call.

It will be hard at first, but your body WILL ajust and get stronger.

Good luck.
Ill challenge you to beat a 347 PT score.
It can be done....if you push yourself.

You'll probably end up doing about 20 more by the end of basic. I didn't max push ups until I got to my second duty station.
