It means Christianity is about sacrifice not comfort. A lesson very few of us have learned.

If you are quoting John 15:13, then this is what I think. Jesus isn't talking about one's material life (although, this could be included in a definition of the word 'life' here). The Greek word employed by John in this verse is 'psuche,' it means life but with a more nuanced connotation. It essentially means 'all that a person is,' or 'the very essence of a human being.' It is similar to the Hebrew 'Nephesh' in this regard.

What the author of John in this passage is suggesting, I think, that in order to express the greatest love possible, one must be willing to sacrifice the essence of who they are. John's Jesus does this by becoming flesh and then again by dying on the cross. So the passage isn't just about denying one's self of material things, or even about denying one's self of that which separates them from God, rather, it is about sacrificing your soul/being for another person.

I'm not suggesting I agree with the theology here, nor am I necessarily a Christian, but it appears that this is what the author of John's gospel had in mind. Hope that helps a bit.

I have been studying the Bible for like 12 years now and I think I just figured this out a few months ago. Have you ever heard of earthbound spirits? They are the spirits of dead people who get stuck on earth because they are too attached to something or someone on earth. It could be alcohol or cigarettes that they are too addicted to. I think if we love some material thing in this world we can cling to it after death and won't be able to move on.

John 15:13 To truly love life means one is willing to give it up to save a friend.

that's like an extra verse "Whoever unearths his existence will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will in looking it." He shows that would desire to you waste a while searching for out worldly possessions, it is going to be lost. might desire to you rather seek God, you will have eternal existence. occasion, somebody desires a clean Corvette with each and every of the extras, and wastes all of his time attempting to earn the motor vehicle and in doing so sacrifices his time with kinfolk, church, and doing what God desires. while he dies, he does not carry his Corvette. somebody else desires a similar Corvette, although isn't vulnerable to sacrifice his kinfolk or God's command just to get it. now no longer that having first-cost concerns is a sin.

in my opinion that question or saying means that : those who lives by doing sins without making up 4 them, and don`t ask for forgiveness from GOD and the ones we hurt, will lose their life by living the next life in Satan`s (may GOD`s curse be on him 4 ever)paradise(hell). because our real life is beginning from the next life, and this life is just a short test we have to pass on by getting good result. i say again that`s only what come up in my mind by reading that question,so if i understand it wrongly ,you all have to forgive me.

once a wise one asked prophet Noah(may peace be upon him)that lived on earth 4 about 500 years:how did this long time passed away for you!? prophet (may peace be upon him) answered: like passing through a door. meaning: our time on earth ,don`t matter how short or long ,it will pass like the wind blows,,like it have till now for us all.specially the ones who are older then others.so love your life by building it for the love and sake of the next life.

may GOD forgive our sins ,and give us the joy of this and the next life, and keep us away from the fire of hell

It means if you love the things of this life enough to deny God and go traipsing after satan instead, you will not have a share in the next life. IE, God's kingdom.

We're a pilgrim people - our real lives are to be spent with God in Heaven. In this life, we have a choice in terms of our focus and effort.

If you love the things in this life more than you love God, you will have only this life. If you love and follow God, you will have Eternal Life.

It could mean different things. In one context it could be someone who is such a juicy target for abuse (too happy for others to accept). Or it could be saying that one should not become attached to this lower form of life on earth, as the higher life of spirit will be devoid of these lower pleasures and thus all we love will be unrecognizable in death.

First of all, you translation is inaccurate!
Read a KING JAMES VERSION it resembles the original dead sea scrolls the most, when compared by Scholars.

Matthew 10:39
He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.

This verse means if you go through life sinning, doing what feels good to the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and living your life the way you want, with no regard for God, you will not have eternal life in heaven.

Matthew 16:25
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

Matthew 16:19
And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

The above verse says, whatsoever you have to give up on this earth, for the sake of God, (sin), he will reward you in heaven. And whatsoever you don't give up will be bound, in heaven.

You are focused on the physical, Which lasts about 80yrs. this scripture is spiritual which is eternal. Greater love has no man than this that he should give up his life for his freinds. It's every body wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die, if you really want to live you are going to have to die. In order for you to be resurrected you have to die. Peace!!!
