Hello everyone:
I am starting to do my research about the effects of American jobs being outsourced to other countries. What is/are your view/views on this topic?

I feel that too many companies are so stressed to make profits that their only recourse is to outsource. If a product is labor intensive but uncomplicated to manufacture, cheap labor costs of the far east make it attractive to outsource. If a process is heavily automated outsourcing is a bad idea. The technicians required to maintain the accuracy of the process are usually skilled people, heavily trained in mechanics,tools progression and automation. I don't consider Telemarketing as an industry,

Outsourcing in a traditional sense means buying a product or sevice from a source/agency outside of your own company instead of doing it with your own employees. It does not necessarily mean that the outsourcing is going out of the country, but it could as we do live in an era of open markets. If you want to consider outsourcing to other countries though, the decision should still be the same: the real decision is whether or not to keep this product/service "in-house".

There are many strategic writings on this topic by men (or women) such as Michael Porter, but generally, they state that you don't outsource things that are near and dear to the success of your company. If you are 3M, you don't outsource your innovation... However, you do outsource if you can get it done better, faster, more cost effectively, or if you can just get the same exact product from many sources in the market, and usually even for less by using an outside agency.

That said, there are still some things that you just don't outsource. E.g. There is probably some guy out there that can make love to your wife better than you can, but you won't outsource that...
