My younger brother came home from a visit to our grandmother's home and told me that she made him turn the channel when he was watching "Little People, Big World" because watching this could possibly bring a "spirit" of illness upon him (the spectre of genetics?).

I most certainly do! She's been in my life off and on now for over 4 years...she's a zealot! She's now a christian scientist...and I asked her about being a member of the Ethical Society...well holy cow! You'd think I'd put a lamb out to slaughter! She said she could not support it b/c it supports groups that she can't uphold, you know, dangerous folks like gays, minorities, etc...
I am friends with everyone and live by the motto "Judge not lest ye be judged"...this person is no longer in my life.

Your idea of a religious nutcase and a real nutcase are two different things. Fred Phelps is a true nutcase, but to his family, he is normal.

Every family has one. When I was a teenager, my Aunt used to come visit and change all the radio stations to christian music and leave pamphlets from her church all over the place. Every corner of her house had a picture of Jesus or a cross. Nutty but harmless.

This guy at work, he is a Lutheran and believes in the bible literally. I was discussing things like the age of the earth and dinosaurs in general and he mentioned one thing that really summed up his and his Church's views. He said, "I only took one science course in high school, geology, and I didn't believe a word of it."

I am surrounded by the deluded.
I live in the Philippines, where the invading Spaniards forcibly introduced catholicism about 400 years ago (Believe in our god or DIE!!!)
My wife is a BA-Xtian but I tolerate it.

My grandmother... but she means well. I shouldn't criticize her for it; she had a pretty screwed up life. Religion appeals to emotions; and she needed something to hold onto during the hard times.

My cousin ran off with one of those church cults where women can not wear pants or cut their hair and her husband beats her all the time but she wont leave him and claims it's God's punishment for evil things she has done (pants for breath)... So yeah I do, actually.
