Yes, it bothers me that some people still have a misogynistic blame-the-victim mentality that doesn't punish the man for defiling the family's "honor". Since this is the first time the perp has committed rape, I must wonder why he was not punished as well. Oh, right, because he's a man.

That is absolutly horrible! I am really hoping that you got the facts wrong because for something as barbaric as tha to be happening in our world today is absolutly frightening. It is a story you would expect to hear in history, not in modern days where everyone is supposed to be accepting of each other! I really hope that this woman is ok because to go through such an ordeal like being raped and then to be blamed for it has got to be the most horrible thing in the world. You hear stories about rape victims who, even if their rapist has been convicted, are going through extreme emotional pain. I can't even imagine how much worse it would be for this poor woman. It really makes me worry about our world and why their are these kind of people who still can't accept that everyone is equal.

That's why they call it a 3rd world country. They blame the woman, claiming she in some way...seduced the man. Now, IF a man is convicted of rape, he also is punished but it takes something like 5 other MALE witnesses to claim the woman was raped, so how often do you think THAT happens? This poor woman will most likely not survive 200 lashes. The whole thing is absolutely revolting.

In the Western countries, they never give you the FULL news, because those who run the media have assumed that Americans are stupid and need to be protected from themselves. So if I were you I would withhold judgment until you know more about this story.
Typically, rapists are executed in Saudi Arabia. I am not sure if that was the case here. Saudi laws also prohibit pre-marital sex. It appears that she must have confessed to it and that's why she was sentenced. Having said that, the Saudii government is made up of hypocrites. The royals travel all over the world to have extra-marital sex, but when one of their women does it, they get upset and she is punished.
That's is one reason that radicals in Saudi Arabia have been trying to overthrow the al-Saud; they are sick and tired of their hypocrisy.

It's not its disgusting ,,,,, the reason they sentenced her to this was because at the time of the rape she was in the company of a non relative male this in that culture is against the law , they also have a very bad view of rape and think that the woman also has fault in it the rapists were sentenced to 10 years in jail so atleast they didnt escape penalty altogether
this is makes me sick as a rape victim my self i know what that poor woman must be going through and will go through for the rest of her life and to be punished for that is wrong

Obviously you've never been beaten in a Saudi prison. 200 lashes is NOT exactly a slap on the wrist.
Oh. You said "victim". Ok, that's screwed up.

Well that is their culture and you should respect it.....NOT
My Iranian friend says it happens a lot in his country also, women get lashes for being unveiled or at least without a scarf in front of non-related males
Oh and here is a link to the story as of today.

It is not justice, but in Saudi Arabia a woman is only as good as she can produce a son. A woman is a non-entity there and would be punished because " she probably provoked it." The culture sickens me.
