My two best friends who were going out broke up today. I have liked one of them for three years, and I feel like now is a good chance to make a move. How long should I wait after the break-up to ask her out, and how can I do it without jepordizing my friendship with my other best friend?

well, first and foremost: NOW is NOT a good time. If they just broke up today, there's no way that the girl is ready to date her ex's best friend. I would hang low for a little and wait til it blows over, then make sure you talk to your friend and make sure it's ok. if it's not, then move on.... there are plenty of fish in the sea. this also depends on how the break up went, the length of time they went out, etc. if it was just a quick fling, then i wouldn't make the wait too long, maybe a couple days

Since they are your best friends, never is a good time to make a move. Don't lose friendship over something that may not work out in the long run.

First, talk to the other best friend that she had been dating... ask if it would be okay to ask his ex out.

Then ask the girl out to coffee or lunch... and just TALK with her.
When there is a lull in the conversation, you can say something to the effect that you've always had warm feelings for her, and wondered if she thought that "something beyond friendship" might be in realm of possibility.
That's an opening for discourse.
Be respectful and gentlemanly... and don't rush anything.

talk to the other friend first, make sure you they understand you really care about this girl and it has nothing to do with them, and that you value your friendship and dont want to lose it. and if they are truly your friend they will support you! then i would talk to the girl.
