You moved out by yourself before setting up financial aid, not very smart idea. Fill out your FASFA form now so that you can start applying for Pell grants and other aid packages. Go to your financial aid office on the college campus immediately and talk to a counselor. As for your taxes, you can file taxes and write off all of your moving expenses plus anything that has to do with school.

You've already gotten good financial aid advice. Once tax forms come out, a lot of public libraries offer free help filling out your tax return. By the end of January you should have your W2s from any employers and the statement from your school saying how much you paid them (the education credits help a lot, so make sure to take them). At this point, the education credit will be the most complicated part of doing your taxes. As long as you don't have anything complicated to deal with, the tax forms are pretty straighforward. They're just a bit daunting when you haven't done them before.

Unless you are making payments to yourstudent loans, you will not receive any tax benefits that I know of. Also I dont think you will be able to do anything with moving expenses either, but check with you tax advisor. For financial aid, you may still be classified as DEPENDENT even though you may now live on your own. Ask your fin aid counselor for more details.
