You're busy for the rest of the year? No way she bought that.

It sounds like you sent her a clear indicator that you don't feel the need to socialize with her... at all.

In life, there are people you keep, and those you allow to drift away, and those you just plain cut loose.
You spend your time with the people who are nurturing to you... those are your friends.
Anyone else you take as they come and go... those are acquaintances... people you don't really worry about.

Personally, I have only "cut-loose" a very few people in my 48 years of life... people who have made it a point to waste my time, gossip about me, use me, or pull some kind of drama-stunt. I don't miss them.
The people you allow to "drift away" are typically people that you have outgrown.

Just b/c you haven't really talked for four years doesn't mean you two can ignore each other. Go to the dinner, and catch up with each other. Are you mad at her or something?

you should talk to her, give her a chance, you'd probably want the same thing! I don't know, I would think that would hurt her feelings, so go for it, it couldn't hurt. You could save your friendship, good luck

You guys can reminisce, the other time you guys had.
Sounds fun to me. (:
