I've unpacked my home theater receiver after several months of storage, and I have a problem ... no sound. I can't even get it to play the radio. Am I missing something simple or has my equipment bit the dust?

Does your display light up when you turn on the unit? If not, check the fuse.

Check to make sure your tape monitor button/dial isn't engaged.

Make sure the speakers a or speakers b button is engaged.

Make sure you are not in 6 channel external audio input, that will defeat your sound. Try to get to stereo for a start, then get fancy. :)

you probably don't have a mute button on the unit, but check to be sure.

That's about all I can think of on a modern day surround receiver.

Best of luck!

How about a model number?

It is hard to tell you what to look for, without one.

Look for a tape monitor button on, or a multichannel input selected, etc... Hopefully you only have a input selector issue.

Next try unhooking everything, then power it up.

Next hook up your speakers one by one, frogging speakers and inputs to see where the problem is.

Then hook up your input devices, one by one, powering the receiver on and off each connection you make.

A short or broken cable or speaker interconnect could cause the problem.

Other than that you will need to give a model to get more detail on what to do next.

Check to make sure you have the speaker cable connected to the right terminals. Check to make sure you have the right speakers enabled. Many receivers have a button on the front to enable speaker's A, B or A+B
