"Christianity" (verrry broad term) is not the chosen 'religion' of God. God is choosing for himself a people of all nations, tribes, tongues from those who call upon His name to be saved.
Religions are man made bureaucracies and generally imply made man rules upon their followers.
God foresaw the misuse of power in the hands of men, and he made our relationship to be directly with Him. We do not need sacrifices, priests or preachers to add any kind of atonement to what Jesus has already provided - 'the blood of the Lamb'.
Jews are the chosen 'people' of God (from the old testament).
Christ offers to them the same opportunity for salvation, and to enter the kingdom of heaven as he offers all people of all races of the world.
The multitude of believers in these times are called 'the bride of Christ' (you refer to them as christianity) and are a world wide multitude, thus no special nation on earth is given them, they will be given a place as citizens of the kingdom of heaven.
There is no reason or purpose for 'christianity' to possess Jerusalem.
In the soon coming world events, He will be turning His attention more to Israel, and less to 'christianity', in fulfillment of many prophecies, and to restore the people to knowing Him.
Israel has been physically restored, Jerusalem has been united (as He promised), but will be soon divided again, Israel will be invaded, again, this time God Himself will deliver Israel from her enemies.
Events in Israel are only accomplished if its God's will, for He has a very specific time table in restoring the Jewish people to a relationship with their God, in a land he promised THEM.

For such a long and detailed question I have a simple answer.
God promised it to THEM.
You can also look up several verses where God says "for my servant ______ I will do ______." Not to mention the promise of a remnant.
Violence is rampant in the OT with God backing it. Plus the Crusades were motivated by Greed more than God, but the honest person wanted to free the Holy Land from the Muslim's.

Luk 21:24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

Me personally I believe God cast them off as his people and that area being holy is way in the past. Now it is just a killing field. I am sure that it doesn't at this time have God's approval.
When he speaks of Jews in the bible he means spiritual Jews or ones he said "he turned his attention to the nations to take out of them a people for his name."
They are no longer God's people. I am sure that area no longer has God's approval.

It sure puts a kink in the (Catholic) doctrine of "teste veritatis" (the "witness people"), which claimed that Jews were to wonder around the earth without a homeland until Jesus gets back.
All well. too bad.

Christians recognize that the descendants of Abraham have a right to have Israel.
Why are you really interested in this?
