I would not chance leaving your bird without a caregiver for five days....aside from the water issue, many birds are just not "smart' enough to know that under their hulled seeds there is MORE seed, and they can starve with food within reach, just because they don't think to search under the hulls at the top of the seed container. And I think they should be covered up at night, too, to help them avoid drafts and feel secure, etc. Could you possibly move your bird and cage to someone else's place for 5 days, if no one can stop by your place??? I would not leave mine alone more than 2 days, max. without someone changing the water, and seed cup. And a single bird is a pretty lonely bird after 5 days!!!

Alone, no. The bird will need someone to give it fresh water and probably food. Bird's water needs to be changed a minimum of once daily, usually more since they make it a mess. 5 days is just too long. See if someone else in the dorm can feed and water it for you while you are gone, if not, bring the bird with you.

A woman down the road from me did that, and the bird died. I didn't even know she had a bird. Had I know, and knew that it was in the trailer home, alone that long, I would have called animal rescue and had them go in and get the bird so that I could have taken care of it. I was so angry I could have spit!! Shame on her.

no, he at least needs to have his water changes daily. All sorts of bacteria can breed in the water in 5 days which could make him very sick.
