Best free deal is the limited time trial version of Office, if you are learning or have an assignment to catch up get now. Do it and keep a viewer to read once finalized.

If you want to continue work on it later for your reference they open source Open office and other likes are

Use docs.google.com to work with your word documents.

Open office and likes are work with MS office and contain several features to help people migrate they also have a import wizard for office documents.

Microsoft gives concessions for student version of the software if you are at a school you can buy for a third prize. In addition try MS center they have deals coming which reduce the prize.

The only other way of getting a free copy is to invest $$$$ on a computer with OEM version of Office, Vista etc so that you have a good MS bundle.

Use Open Office.org it works like Microsoft Office and it is open source(Its Free). To download it go to "openoffice.org" The only thing that you have to do is when you make a file in Open Office save it as Microsoft Word format. So can open it in any computer with Microsoft Office on it.

Good Luck !

Legally, you can't.

Search on Yahoo for Open Office Org.

You can download a free office suite that will do most if not all the things Microsoft's suite will do, and it will open and save in Microsoft's format, so you can work and home and them take the files to school or work and open them on the Microsoft suite.

Use OpenOffice. Does the same (or better) than MS and lets you choose which format to save your work in.

Or buy SoftMaker for ~$70. It's much faster, lighter and more
stable than MS. If you're a student, the academic discount is 80%!

There is no LEGAL way of getting them, but you can try a safe alternative. OpenOffice (www.openoffice.org) imitates Microsoft Office, and works like it too. Plus, you an open and save .doc, .ppt, .pps, .xls, etc extentions. So, it essentially works and operates like Microsoft, but is free.
