Ill work if you want it to make it work. The two main words here are: Trust, and honesty with each other. I have a long distance relationship, and this is going so well, i trust him and he trust me. I make sure he knows everything about me, what i do, and stuff. Just to make him part of my hole world in just a few minutes i talk to him, and he does the very same thing. I love him and he loves me too. He's in RI and im in CA, and is going pretty well. its all up to the couple if they really believe in it.
Good Luck!

Tokyo, Japan <-----> Wisconsin for about 1 year.

It worked out fine. Married her a year ago.

Long distance relationships don't inherently work or not work. Its all about the amount of love and commitment and sacrifice (and self control) that the both of you have.

Its very difficult if you're both very physical and you can't show your affection for each other physically... If you don't have the self control or commitment to the relationship isn't really up to par then one or both of you is bound to "wander" while the other is away.

My advice. Don't bother with a long distance relationship unless you both can imagine getting married someday... and that the long distance situation WILL end on a KNOWN date. (such as you're ending college soon and you KNOW you will be together and you're BOTH mature enough to know that this is truly the person you want to be with forever...Otherwise you're just wasting your time and hurting both of yourselves for nothing.)

Depends on the people involved. If you want to make something work, then yes it can. It's hard though. It depends on if you're willing or he's willing to relocate. There are alot of things to consider. Plus, being together in person and spending alot of quality time together is harder to do in a long distance relationship. But anything is possible.

A girlfriend of mine, she was in a long distance relationship with a guy for 3 years.. we're in canada, he was in austrailia. He moved here last year, they're still together.

It took a lot of effort on their part.. a big chunk of their relationship revolves around communication, but every relationship should, shouldn't it!

Its not easy and I would not recommend it. The distance makes intimacy, trust, and loyalty hard to maintain. What good is a relationship or marriage if you only see your mate less than 100% of the time? I wouldn't want anything less than 100%.

Yes I have, twice. The first one did not work out so well, but I am now engagedand live with the second one. The funny thing was that the one that didn't work out actually lived a lot closerto me than the second guy did.

For the last seven months - I'm american, he's german. He visited me for two weeks during the summer, and I'm going to Germany for 10 days six weeks from now. We talk every night on Skype for at least a couple hours.
So far, so good.

yeah, I was in NYC and she was in Plattsburgh (about 7 hours a way). She eventually moved in with me in the city. It worked for a few years. She later broke up with me.
