The "metal plates of mormon" you are refering to are the plates that the angel Maroni gave to Joseph Smith, along with a special pair of glasses so that he could read and translate the Book of Mormon. No one else has ever seen either the plates or the glasses.

Can't help you with your Aunt's comments.

I second what the Mormon Duck said.

But the Metal Plates have nothing to do with that- I think by Metal plates you mean the Gold Plates. They were a record of an ancient people who lived in the America's. Joseph Smith translated them- now that record is called the Book of Mormon.

You seem to be asking to separate questions.

The metal plates are the medium upon which the ancient authors of the Book of Mormon wrote their teachings on, They were actually plates of gold, fashioned into thin sheets upon which their language could be written. (Reformed Egyptian).

Mormons are discouraged from getting body piercings or tattoos. However, no one is ever forced to have them sewn shut of the tattoos removed. Like everything else, it is up to the individual. Nothing in the Mormon religion is done by compulsory means, but by freedom of choice.

You don't have to have the piercing sewn shut. This is what the L.D.S. site had to say.

"Latter-day prophets strongly discourage the piercing of the body except for medical purposes. If girls or women desire to have their ears pierced, they are encouraged to wear only one pair of modest earrings.

Those who choose to disregard this counsel show a lack of respect for themselves and for God. They will someday regret their decision.

The Apostle Paul taught of the significance of our bodies and the danger of purposefully defiling them: “Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are” (1 Corinthians 3:16–17). "
