Yes. Say thanks..smile hugely..then say.."its myyyyy birthday!!! Everyone has to be nice to me! I will do what I want! Hahahahaha." That usually works for me.

i do! i feel really dumb if i dont cuz then the person just stands there waiting for a response and me i dont want to risk what happened last year! my crush said happy birthday to me and since i didnt say anything yet he just stayed there waiting for a responce! While he was waiting i ended up just drowning in his eyes! Then he asked me if i was doing anything for my birthday, and since inside my head i was paying so much attention to how cute he was i didn't know what he asked me and i ended up thinking out loud and saying "he is so cute"! IT WAS THE MOST EMBARRASSING DAY OF MY ENTIRE LIFE!

I have to ask, why wouldn't you be gracious and do the obvious? If someone is being nice enough to give you a birthday greeting, why wouldn't you say thank you? Is it so difficult to have proper manners?
