Why do shadow beings reach for the face?

When I was a teenager, I woke up to catch one reaching for my face. Why do they do that? Anyone have an idea? And please, no repeat answers.

If you don't have an actual answer, keep your stupid, uneducated comments to yourself.

I would like to add that I only saw this thing one time. It was not "in my peripheral vision" as many people say. It was right in front of me, reaching for my face. When it saw that I noticed it, it withdrew and dissipated. Can we fight these things back? Can I attack it? I know that people have told it to leave, but I just think that if a hostile intruder is in your home and you tell them to leave, you might as well not even bother. If you have an intruder, you attack them, right? I just wonder if they would come back after an attack.

I've seen many Shadow Ghosts and none of them reached for my face. They didn't reach for me at all.

I had one that used to haunt the hallway of the house I used to live in at night, but he never reached for me. You could tell it was a man and he was about 6 feet tall, wearing a hat (which seems to be typical of Shadow Ghosts. Yes thats an actual term used by research teams). Another one I found sitting on my bed once, and all she did was turn around to look at me. I didn't freak out or anything, just turned and walked out. She was gone when I came back. Yes you could tell their sex from the shape of the shadow.

I don't know why they'd reach for you.
