one more question can i watch a blu ray movie with just the av cables that came with the ps3 or do i need an hdmi or component cable

The 20 gb is the easiest. Just look at the front DVD tray. If it's black, it's a 20 gb. If it's chrome, it's either a 60 or 80 gb.

I don't think you can tell the difference between the 60 and 80 gb besides going into the cross bar menu and checking to see how big the hard drive is.

The easiest way is to look at the box, near the bottom right corner. It'll say either 20, 60, or 80 gb.

If there is no box :
20GB - the above answer is great - it has no chrome trim.
Difference between 60GB and 80GB - there is a sticker on the bottom part. 60GB is CECHA01.
