for anything you might want to buy, and I tried to tell it to you, you'd pay rapt attention, wouldn't you?
If I knew some medical procedure that would prolong your life by, say, 50 years, you'd want to know about it, wouldn't you?

So, why, when someone cares enough about you to try to tell you what they believe is the secret to eternal life, would you get offended??

I don't get offended. I just get tired of it.

For example, let's say (to use a locally historic example), that I told you that a bottle of Kilmer's Swamp Root was that medicine that would prolong your life by 50 years. Perhaps you had done some research on the stuff and didn't believe me. But every time I saw you I'd insist that you needed a bottle of Kilmer's Swamp Root. Furthermore, some of your other friends also started to insist that you needed a bottle of the stuff. "Haven't you tried Kilmer's Swamp Root?" they'd say, "You'd be stupid not to. You'll die young!"

Imagine this went on for YEARS. On the TV, in the newspaper, on the street, in your workplace there would be people pushing Kilmer's Swamp Root. Everywhere you turn, Swamp Root, Swamp Root! Swamp Root songs in the stores at wintertime, Swamp Root displays in your neighbors' yards. You can't go a day without being told that YOU, too, should take Kilmer's Swamp Root! You don't? For God's sake, what's wrong with you?!?

Wouldn't you get tired of it, too?

So the next time you want to tell someone about eternal life, think about KILMER'S SWAMP ROOT!

"If I knew a secret magic that could make your wallet always produce the exact amount of money you needed?
for anything you might want to buy, and I tried to tell it to you, you'd pay rapt attention, wouldn't you?"

No. I would suspect that you're a scam artist.

"If I knew some medical procedure that would prolong your life by, say, 50 years, you'd want to know about it, wouldn't you?"

No. I would definitely dismiss you as a scam artist.

"So, why, when someone cares enough about you to try to tell you what they believe is the secret to eternal life, would you get offended??"

Because you're a scam artist.

Nope I wouldn't want the magic wallet.. Things not earned don't have real value..

Nope I wouldn't want the secret to prolonging my life by 50 years, I am not concerned with the quantity of life but the quality...

I do not get offended when someone tries to tell me about their belief, I simply tell them I am not interested which is their que to back off...

When they do not back off is when I get offended as they are making the assumption that I want what they have when I have already told them clearly I don't want it... I become offended as through their actions they are telling me they are not listening, not communicating but are preaching, ranting and dictating their agenda to me... Which is very rude behavior.. Wouldn't you agree...

Please try a new argument this one is now moot :)

I hear you and I agree with you. However, the difference the people see is that your examples can be shown by immediate results. (50+ yrs of life would take a bit longer to see, but in 50 yrs, ppl will see the physical results). Money, you see the result right away. Because ppl can see these things physically, they will be more willing to listen. However, with the spiritual side, there's no immediate result that they can see. Even when they're dead, they don't come back to say that "hey, they were right everyone!!". So they would have to experience the spiritual results, which a lot of ppl don't consider as physical proof. It's a tough sell. Sad isn't it?

Definitely not.
If I am with a person who cares so much for me and shares such belief or any belief, and I must add that such belief is indefinitely in line with the life that is shared beautifully between me and that person, WOAH! full steam ahead - all the way I shall agree with and add on to that belief to make this life worth living.
That is start where 'I' become 'WE'.

Just a thought...

Hmmm, what if I had my own wallet that did that, and I had my own medical procedure to live healthy and long. Even though yours and mine are different yet gave what the owner desired - would you leave me alone?

So, when I say that I have my own beliefs regarding religion and faith, although different from yours, makes me complete just as yours does you, why do you insist I should give mine up??!

I already have such a device in my wallet- it's called a credit card.

If you have a medically proven way that guarantees I will live 50 years longer, please share.

You have absolutely no proof for the third. Until you do, don't tell me to change the path I am on because you feel yours is the right path.
And I promise to afford you the same courtesy.

i can't communicate for females approximately this project, yet i will inform you techniques precisely how plenty is in my wallet at this very 2d - easily zilch, no longer even plenty as one pink cent! yet, then, that isn't the place I regularly carry my money. I consistently carry it in my pants or shirt wallet...

Because you could demonstrate the money trick, and you'd have to have already extended someones life by fifty years to get me to believe the second.

The third, though... how would you go about showing me that it really works, exactly?

well stated my friend

In iraq I talked to people who were always in danger of getting killed by IED's and they seemed indifferent

In Nov 03, the convoy from my operating base was hit. 3 vehicles were disabled and the soldiers pinned down by accurate sniper fire. One of my friends who was injured and kept moving was slowly shot to peices until he bled to death. Another was hit in the cheek and his lower face was ripped away and he drown in his blood.

those are 2 of the 4 that were killed.
