In other words is it a rejection of the gods that one has heard of or a rejection of the entire concept of a god?

Also, do atheists share a unity in belief/unbelief?

It isn't people who prove the non-existence of god. You can't prove a negative. That's a logical fallacy.

It's people who deny the existence of any god.

Any unity would be done under another flag, such as secular humanism. But an atheist is not by definition aligned with other atheists.

From Websters:1archaic : ungodliness, wickedness
2 a: a disbelief in the existence of deity b: the doctrine that there is no deity.I've heard that at one time, dictionary's like Websters only used #1.And included other nice names like hate full, deceitful etc. There are really 2 kinds of atheism:strong atheism: atheists who accept as true the proposition, "gods do not exist". And weak atheists:refers to any type of non-theism which falls short of this standard. Because of flexibility in the term "god", it is understood that a person could be a strong atheist in terms of certain portrayals of gods, while remaining a weak atheist in terms of others. It's also called positive and negative atheism.Confused yet?Hopefully not.Agnosticism is without knowledge or unknowable:1: a person who holds the view that any ultimate reality (as God) is unknown and probably unknowable; broadly : one who is not committed to believing in either the existence or the nonexistence of God or a god
2: a person unwilling to commit to an opinion about something...........I'm an atheist towards gods that are logically incoherent.I'm an agnostic towards gods that i have little or no knowledge about.

The belief that no deity exists. My history teacher is an atheist and I do think they share a unity in unbelief (of god), because it's kind of like being in a club. You form an alliance with the people that share beliefs like your own, because like clubs, they are formed to unite people that want to implement the same ideas.

Belief that no deity exists. There are subsections of Atheists though, like myself, who are Pantheist Atheists who believe in God as a metaphor for the wonder of nature and the universe.

Well, both.

We reject the concept of God and therefore do not believe in any God that we have heard of/people have told us about.

That [above] is our one unifying belief. As being athiest is not a religion, we do not have anything else in common, such as moral beliefs.

This is an interesting question. For me, as an atheist, I cannot force myself to believe in a single ultimate power. A god is simply something with power greater than our own...but all things answer to something else, such is the nature of our universe. Therefore, there can be no one all-powerful being, but a vast array of powerful beings, all at varying levels. We are to something, as ants are to us. While an ant is unable to comprehend a world beyond their own (as humans are able to), they are still subject to our whims. They can be swept away or kept safe by a multitude of friendly or angry gods. To me, there is no god, only something with vastly greater power. If s/he is a microcosmic type god, they will care about what you wear, and perhaps even be turned on by what you do (if they are concerned with one being, they feel an intimate attachment), and thus limited in power. If they are a macrocosmic type god, then they are only concerned with events on a universal scale, and thus feel a complete detatchment from us and are unconcerned with humankind. If one wishes to worship a higher power, then one best hope they lie somewhere in between, interested enough, but not to interested (between impotent and omnipotent). For me, I refuse to drop on one knee to worship and grovel, as whatever I do, they will not be swayed if they wish to smite...they have plans beyond ours, that we, as of now, cannot fathom. As for a unity of belief among atheists, I would say there are as many schools of thought over the subject as there are in religions. The only unity we share, is our united front against shivering in terror at things we cannot hope to see or change. Hope this ads insight for you.

Rejection of belief in any gods and all gods.

That is the only unifying concept.

Basically christians are atheists to all gods but one.
